Looks very clean underneath, consistent with its miles. Impressive for a car that spent most of its life in the snowy northeast. Color combo and wheels are bleh, and will keep the price down a bit.

Don’t like is putting it mildly. That’s pure sacrilege replacing the classic Fuchs with that junk.

I agree; I was toning it down. I try not to use the words Hate or Love too often. I think they are overused in general.
Those wheels are very close to being in the "Hate" category.

Cup 1s just don't work on the G Series. I would be surprised if it makes it passed $80k range. Mods are going to hold that one back.

I don’t have a problem with it, I hate those wheels. I hate them as is, and I especially hate them even more on a 930. Dipped in chrome and then put on a 930 is just plain stupid.

The 78 930 that just came on looks much better. Expensive outside and running gear +++ lots of other detail, resto done, except for the interior which looks great if mostly original for a 78. Few negative like wrong muffler, AC compressor, radio and no photos of trunk stuff air pump, tools jack inflatable spare plastic tire changing stuff, so maybe not a good one for the total purist type.. I'm not going to comment on BAT however If everything else is in good order that missing stuff is probably a $5K parts missing deduction but a NS to a "original stuff that came with it new " type of buyer, but if everything else checks out I'd say at least $120K for a excellent rare color ( not for rawknees ) driver as that seems what it was before around $60K was recently spent. Motor rebuild was really expensive so either a super high quality job or it was really in need. Which brings up, there is a trans # but no photo of COA or engine ID. Seems odd for BAT listings to be missing this info. If that stuff is never available then it may bring less unless someone just wants a "like new" looking & most likely driving 78 930 to drive for the next 50K miles or so before another serious cash outlay needed.

Well put, you’d think it should reduce its value to many by more than just the wheel replacement alone because of this. I agree with that line of thinking.

At least it's not Turbo twists. Or the myriad other horrendous wheels. I always question peoples' taste on these cars when Fuchs are not on there. Obviously the last person liked them, thought they could get good $$$ for the old ones.

Wheels are easy to change. Also, when such horrendous wheels are presented on an otherwise desirable car, one can maybe get a bargain on it.

I also question all the bozos who put whale tails on their SCs and Carrera 3.2s - not to mention mid-years and longhoods. I cannot stand tail on anything but a Turbo. Also goes for white gauges, but again, easily reversible.

The white gauge exception is with all white interior.

Speaking only for myself, I firmly believe that some wheels (Fiske, anyone?) look good on a 930, and anything you can do to get bigger meats out back is a good thing from a performance perspective. But if you're offering a 930 for sale to the public, you've got to have it on Fuchs.

^^^ I agree. I put a set of Fiske wheels on mine to run some wider tires. 9” & 11”. I had to get 17” diameter due to tire choices.

Plus I wanted to change the look for a while.

White, grey, linen, parchment interior in a silver Porsche? Other than Black/Black contrasting colors just seem to sell better. That along with the other changes from showroom on a otherwise most likely collector type, might hurt the value / bidding. Over the last few years I had seen a few later 930s with that color combo. Bought these silver w/ various interior color combo 77-79 930s for resale @ VoitureLTD instead. I know now I sold most of them too soon, As Tom Barrett always said about the good stuff, "you don't pay too much, you just buy too soon", and they did. I usually ask for a first right of refusal. So far, crickets.

Actually I agree that around $80K for this 1987 one that has some mods . It got $98K so a few thought more highly than us. Now to see if the 78 930 closing tomorrow will get close to my value range. A few more miles but fresh refurbishment of the things that even the best cared for turbo will soon need, unless stored, seldom driven examples, that not to long ago would be around $200K or more. I have a stock 79 930 that needed head studs before 10K miles so engine work to replace those in the turbos can need replacing at just about any time. Paint 40 years old ( especially 2 part like silver ) is seldom show quality, so the 60K recently spent on the refurbishment on the 78 may soon be looming on many untouched turbos. My estimate of $120 sounds like a deal to me, although his reserve may be more / or less. Same seller has a nice red 88 SN coupe also on BAT.

98k plus $$ for Fuchs and tires at minimum, maybe correct the intercooler too, and add the BaT commish...Seemed well sold to me.

I’m still shocked to see how many bidders come out of the woodwork on BaT at the very last minute. I tuned in with about 3 minutes to go, when it was only at 65k.

What color is it, Tony? I can think of a few that would require a $15-$20K deduction if I was a buyer. :)


The Garretson intercooler on that car is a far superior performer to the stocker (around a 20-25hp bump due to far better charged air cooling, and a wider safety margin against detonation - dyno proven).

I know what you mean, though, as oddly enough, many buyers of these cars don't view increased performance as a positive; those bisches must not buy them to drive.

I know any intercooler is better than stock, that’s why I said maybe, since it’s so close to stock.
