Let’s play “What would you buy”? Parameters are:

1. 80k Budget, give or take a bit
2. 2 doors
3. Comfortable enough to be a semi daily driver
4. Sporty enough to be able to handle 3-4 track days a year with minimal mods (brake fluid, pads)
5. Reliable enough to be able to plan road trips without worry
6. Reasonable expectation that it will not suffer massive depreciation in a 3-5 year time frame
7. Porsches only.

And...go!

2017 991.2 C2 with manual shifting and a tune, although it will likely depreciate a good 25% in 5 years.

Otherwise a solid manual 996tt, you can buy a cream puff low mileage car for $60k and pocket the rest.

The TT in a heartbeat - a great platform for future performance (big power) mods, as well.

996 GT3 or a 993 C4.

I'm with Rick on the 996 turbo. Buy for $50K, pin the coolant lines & replace rubber hoses for $4K; pocket the rest. Downside: you gotta travel light.

Buy a 993 that's had a quality re build and put the remainder into muffler, suspension and brakes.

Hahah Exactly this! If you have $80K budgeted no need in cheating yourself!

996TT is an amazing car, could certainly get a nice one, put $10K into in and have an awesome all around car.

Also would consider a newer car with a PDK, although you will lose more on resale

Lastly after a quick Ebay search I saw this 2011 Turbo S with cool options and you didn't mention any mileage limits, although 97K is not that much to me to pay $70K for a 100K car is a tough one for me... Still have a few buck left... to put into the car!! :)

997.1tt coupe manual all day over a 996tt. Better car in all aspects (especially looks) and in the budget. 996 GT3 > 996tt

My attitude towards a car collection is rather than spend $80,000 on one car, spend it on multiple cars, because you never know what mood you are in when you walk out into the garage. And yes, they all get driven, some even to work on a Monday morning.

1972 Pantera. I’ve always wanted one but I missed the boat. Like our air cooled classics, they used to be cheap as chips. I can’t say I’d trade my 930 for one though so, I feel pretty fortunate.
I don’t think I’d spend 80 grand on a car though. There’s to many great cars for half that or less.

Interesting thoughts and suggestions so far.

To add some color, I currently own a 2012 Cayman and a 89 964C4. Love them both, but would love to combine them into one car due to lack of storage space. I’m sure several of you would just advise me to stand pat and enjoy the flexibility of owning two distinctly different Porsches—and I might just do that.
I’m was expecting a lot more support for the 997 TT and even the GT4, and am surprised at the amount of enthusiasm for the 996TT.

Macan is out of this conversation (4 doors), and I prefer the 964 over the 993.
