Another questionable auction on Pcarmarket

The orange 912 is yet another listing that’s riddled with unanswered questions and even though it’s a no reserve, seams totally shady. I didn’t copy the link but it’s easy to find. I was cautiously optimistic when I learned about this new Porsche only venture but, it seams to me they’re not off to a good start. Here’s my post,

Amazing to me that the re-spray was done over all of the body damage and without even removing the engine grill. Can the seller provide information on the paint ? Who did it, when it was done, etc. It would also be beneficial to see pix of the inside of all the fenders with the wheels off, bottoms of both doors and close ups of all the blistered areas that have been painted over.

Perhaps MWs no reserve auction will help them but, if they don’t get there ***** together soon I can’t see em lasting.

Have any of their cars actually sold yet? Best I can tell, every car so far has failed to meet reserve and wound up in the deal tank.

Another questionable auction on Pcarmarket

I was also hopeful with them but I’m loosing my faith. One very basic stuff is when the auction is completed it should clearly state if it was won or if it didn’t reach reserve. The message you get when the auction closes make it seem like the last bid was the winning one but that wasn’t the case. I pinged them to recommend this fixed and nothing.

Yah, they seam to have copied BATs format to a T with the exception of their communication.
Perhaps it’s not to late to turn it around but they sure don’t seam to be off to a good start. Pity.

I respectfully disagree. In fact that’s the point, for better or for worse, like all the air cooled P-cars, they have turned around. Nice examples of 912s are trading in the high 40s to low $50s

Wasn’t there an orange 912 on BAT within the last 12 months that had horrible overspray and paint details? I didn’t pay close enough attention to know if it’s the same car or different car?

If you look at their completed auctions, 2 cars have sold. Now you know why BAT is so hardcore about low reserves, if more cars sell then don't sell, people stay interested, if the reverse happens people lose interest. Pcar has a narrow window of time to get the ball rolling.

Not off to a good start. I was considering listing my car but I think with all of the questionable cars listed I will no longer consider it. I guess BAT has nothing to worry about

Good point. I think it took BAT a little while to catch on, but they only had to compete with eBay, which is an awfully low bar. Pcarmarket has to compete with a well-established BAT and that's going to be a hell of a challenge.

Yes. I think it's going to be extremely difficult to compete with BaT for any new entrant.

Similar reason why there's only one Facebook, one twitter, one LinkedIn, one Google, etc. Facebook competed with Myspace early on which was a garbage site for 14 year olds, and it wiped it out. But Google+ despite being able to tap into millions or billions of Google users flopped completely because Facebook was too far gone by then.

BAT ran a blog for several years writing about old oddball cars observed on classified ads and such (Barn Finds is similar) the short articles were interesting and I suspect they accumulated subscribers. I recall the owner posted a personal vehicle for sale, then eventually a couple random cheap cars perhaps from subscribers. The viewing audience was established in advance from the blog and the sales appeared to be a success. There were no $100k cars in the beginning.

It would seem pcar has a long road ahead in order to gain a sizeable viewing audience, and we have no idea if the cars represented are from genuine sellers or those pulled in from friends posing as inventory. Heck, we can't even tell if the bids are genuine or smoke. I suspect BAT would terminate an auction if a host of receipts with altered mileages were pointed out.

BAT was a lot more interesting back then, it really meant "bring a trailer". The number of auctions and sales price history is impressive and useful though. We really need another site for the random craigslist and barn finds that have taken the backseat at BAT, not more auctions. Maybe thats what the pcar guys should have tackled instead.

I don't think you quite understand my collection.
If I want Porsche style I have the 356, corners and is pretty quick. If I want a Porsche with AC/Heat and some speed I have the 993, if I want old America style I got the Stang, and if I want blinding power with suspension and brakes to match I have the C43 AMG, which has lots more horses and 2 more cylinders than any 911.
It's only legal to have one wife, but you can have variety in cars.
But please go and enjoy your one trick pony.

---Adam

How could I not know all about your collection, bro, considering that you post pics of those bisches on an almost daily basis (even more frequently than I post that pic of the 356/912/914 engine)!

Ok, then I'll share some in process additions and cars next in line for my loving care. I don't need a crystal ball to know my future, it involves welders and hammers.
