And don’t forget Jack Olsen’s car (he used fiberglass and the car looks fantastic):

Nice inspiration pic. Looks awesome! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I think where fiberglass got a bad rap was that people would buy the parts... expect to bolt them on and fit like a factory part. The fiberglass parts will always need work. Sometimes more than a steel part in terms of hours. But once you get the part to fit right, it shouldn’t detract from the value. IMO

I already have a glass hood and decklid not to mention front and rear bumpers. Might as well be glass I guess. Yesteday I saw the glass fendered green rsr sell for $170k on BAT.

Not to mention that everyone with a duck tail is sporting a fiberglass piece.

I don’t want glass fenders on my own car. Decklids, bumpers, and hoods are more negotiable. There’s a balancing act there, literally. The nose of a 911 is already light. I’l pull weight at the ends. But not the fenders if I can help it.
|
I’ve thought about that too. I’ve lost some weight out back with this backdate though with the loss of the metal deck lid and turbo tail. I don’t know but I don’t think I’m going to notice 10lbs.

I notice the difference between a full tank of gas and empty. Ymmv.

So do I.

I’m doing a LWB R type also, but didn’t like the EB Motorsports rear bumper I received. Too thin and flimsy for the street, and the part was laid up with mat, not cloth. It’s already deformed and cracked. I went with Getty parts for the rest of the car. If your going to go with glass, you have to go with the best, otherwise you’ll spend tons of more time fitting and finishing. I’m most likely going to keep the doors steel for safety. Just have a roll bar. Wish someone made steel R rear flairs.

I'd like to do the rear quarters too, but for some reason THAT seems like too much work. :D |
