Actually Y'all are barkin up a storm on Sugar's thread. The thread is titled that he wants to punch someone every time he hears them say G-50. I think he wants to punch you too now!

Some of us were only trying to ease his pain, change the subject a little. Even Deez said -- this is Sug thread so feel free to say whatever you like. I had some inquisitive G-50 question a few pages ago. Only JMS935 responded, but I was hoping to learn more. Where were you then?

Just curious, what did the real McCoy used to mean to you, if anything? As I said, knockin down big oak trees in the woods, especially ALONE, is what it means to me. The rest is just history, but juan was begging for that one.

Hi John,

I watched the whole documentary. I had no idea that was where the name came from. It was like watching Bonanza when I was young, but this one was way before my time. I guess an apology is in order. I don't know how Danny and Mike came up with that name.

I didn't mean to pollute the minds of other members here. Telling this story jogged my memory, so now I can correct a couple details. Danny was not one, but two grades ahead of me. Probably that was how he beat me up and demanded I take back what I said in public at the park. As said, I was beating him to pulp until his friends pulled me off. He had a bit more rage in him and help from friends. I was only ever an innocent bystander. Juan said -- sometimes the tip is all it takes! Danny, though from a family of shorter people was hung like a horse. If he could have, he'd have sunk the whole Salmon! Hence the Juan joke -- sometimes the tip is all it takes?

Now back to G-50! Whose got some good stuff left on this thread? Matt Monson is going to have to at least take some lessons or consult you, on extrordinair pork smoking...Me too!

Will this clutch work on a G-50?
 
Tough question for me. Thanks in advance for any guidance to answer! Posting a few pix, not great ones though. I can take better ones if necessary with numbers.

I ordered this set up 10 years ago to go with a 3.8 RS 964 to be coupled with an R 50-50 Ruf BTR III 6 speed. I've decided to abandon the NA WAY and get back to Turbo. Ronnie is gonna be proud of me!

Whether this clutch will fit or be good I have absolutely no idea. The flywheel may clear the trans. case, but just looking at it, it will be a tight fit so its hard to know. This flywheel fits into the trans case but with very little clearance when I eyeball it.

Trans and chassy are 1989 911 configuration. Not sure at all about the clutch. I thought I ordered it for G-50 10 years ago. There's that # again! Don't punch me please!

It will work fine. Unless you go over 500hp on the turbo don’t sweat it.

914 doesn't have that kind of tunnel. It's mid-engine and the gearbox is in the behind. It does require cutting the rear trunk a little bit though. Kind of like installing the sequential gearbox last night into my Cayman...

Unbelievable Matt! Did you build that box yourself? Last night means you might have been up into wee hours of the morning trying to finish a job. When I was 15 years old Mom would be yelling out the door -- either come in for dinner, or go to bed! I would be out under the 68'Camaro with a light even with a foot of snow on the ground.

Then, I bought a set up from an older guy for 200.00. Muncie M21 rock crusher, 11 inch clutch, aluminum bell housing with a Mr. Gasket in line shift linkage. I had to cut out left side of the console to get the linkage in. I tinned it in and carpeted over top. I replaced the original Saginaw 4 on the floor. Had a lot of fun after that. Also changed out 307 diff gear to 373. Just always loved being under a car. Still do! It is one thing that relaxes me other than some red wine. One day it would be cool to see more of what you do either info or pix.

Nah, I have a guy. ADDvanced would consider me a poseur. There's often confusion around here about what I actually do. I own a gearbox parts manufacturing company. I run the the day to day operations; warehousing the parts, handling sales, etc. etc. I have a partner in Australia who runs the factory and all manufacturing operations. We have an engineer on staff who designed this box. What I had him do was use the original Cayman bellhousing and crownwheel and pinion set and redsign the whole thing. We cast a new magnesium section with a foundry in NZ and then CNC machined the rest of it. Internally it looks a lot like the GT3 conversion we did a few years back. We reused some of the same parts.

Once the box was finished, I purchased a Cayman and shipped it off to one of my better customers. He's a former crew chief for TRG and Alex Job, as well as a PMNA employee. He's won Daytona, Lemans, etc with top teams in the business. He's got a couple of guys who work for him that are doing the heavy lifting on this. The car is at his shop in Vegas, and given that it's peak race season, they are working on it an hour or two in the evenings after they get their other stuff done. It's been about a 2 year process to reach this point and I'm getting quite excited to fly in and drive the car home.

That's so awesome Matt! I wish you Godspeed with it all! It was interesting that you employ also Kiwis and Aussies in the business. I like them both, but especially the Kiwis. There are are some cleaver Kiwis I've met and they are a different breed. For instance, my good friend and neighbor in the mountains still holds the national record for quarter mile in a holden with chev 305 motor he built at young age as an engineer in training and poor, 30 years ago. He is now a qualified engineer. Ever heard about the fastest Indian? Google that, but that guy his mutual friends and family know, and that small town isn't a far stones throw from his on the South island. . I've seen that documentary. This Kiwi even invaded US Air Force base with his Indian motorcycle, just to run in on their property. All was overlooked because some Higher up officer saw his Indian in a popular mechanics magazine.

Anyway, I like the Kiwis! The Aussies I like, but a different breed. The Kiwis are tighter than a snapper's ass. Aussies are tight too, but sometimes you gotta watch your back.

And that box probably makes more power via gravity spinning the drive flanges than a 912 does with the throttle WFO!!! :D
