No argument, here, Deez. I ran through two E36 M3s and an E46 M3 Competition. Wife has a 2015 328ix wagon. The new stuff is...fugly.

That new 4 series coupe is horrendous, the new ones just arrived at our local dealer so ive seen they're as bad in person. I'm driving an 2018 m550i as a daily with x drive and quite honestly it is a great car. Looks solid, lots of power and x drive too. So you can be confident in bmw messing up the next gen 5 series for certain. Blah bmw.

It is confusing for me trying to separate the most influencing factor on prices now and coming up this year. Prices have rising substantially on so much, fuel, building materials, housing, rent, bicycle's, camping supplies. Obviously shortages from the shut down have an affect, so does printing money and devaluing the dollar, with 911's there still seems to be an unwavering demand which helps keep prices up but they have not kept up with the previously mentioned stuff, so comparatively the prices have fallen on 911's.

It is an interesting question but classic Porsche prices seem to be tracking with inflated plywood costs. The Fed will blame it on COVID (supply chain) but agree, printing money is adding fuel to the fire. Insane prices on BAT.

So a trusted friend said not long ago, The Japanese economy has been/is on life support. It's not surprising that money/currencies are affected, especially the USD. All that borrowed money, pandemic included will come back to haunt. It's a strange new world, yet I hope it will come back to some sort of normality. Most of us would like to see 911 prices still rise, those who have one or more of them, but will they really? I don't think so BAT aside.

as i recall it was discussed in this thread earlier and other threads that the OP contributed to was kind of a "sky is falling" guy in his assessments. so there's that.

A Ferrari buddy recently bought a Porsche which in his words was still an "affordable classic" something he felt Ferrari's were no longer.

The 911 he bought was perfect and he paid top of the market from a reseller.

I get the allusions to Japan in the 80s / 90s but US is a bit of a different economy. Increasingly an intangibles economy (new economy) with less substitution risk from China / Asia manufacturing. Far more favorable demographic trends (OK-ish birth rates for a developed economy). Japan tried to spend their way out of the lull and invested in non-productive infrastructure. US can't make that same mistake.

The 2011 - 2019 was one of the longest economic recoveries on record but it was also the most anemic in terms of GDP added. COVID-19 provided the hard reset but disproportionately impacted lower socio-economic cohorts (making the tragedy even more tragic!). Those with money fared far better and are now enjoying the huge wealth effects of stimulus that's coiled the economy like a spring.

There just aren't that many storm clouds on the horizon for the economy from here. That really could drive asset prices and porsche prices to even loftier heights. The fall/correction could correspond with greater electrification which may make it even more precipitous (but that's a different can of worms).
