Interesting 914-6 GT being sold.

https://racer.com/2019/12/12/1970-porsche-914-6-gt-on-offer-at-gooding-companys-scottsdale-auction/?fbclid=IwAR3xBtzma4iDmGNUmdIUBJVM0NCDJ7SLcLwOePau BzWUAabc7PH0YfcG_KE

Care to guess what it will bring? I’m thinking $3/4 Million or so.

I don't think any 914's have sold over the $650k mark. This is a special car but not over RSR money. This is just me spit balling but I'm guessing 750k
with the Daytona pedigree

That all said its a cool car and not something I've seen across the block. The Daytona winning factor makes it uncharted for me

Brutus sold for $1,008,000, but technically he’s a 916. I doubt this car will go that high but I’ve been wrong before. You never know what Motorsports history will do to the bidding.

As a previous owner of this car I can assure you it never raced at Le Mans 24 ,(only the classic)

It was a class winner (GTU) @ the 1971 Daytona 24 and then raced at Sebring the same year finishing 4th in class.
That was pretty much the end of its professional career except for a race or two up in Canada.

I as well as others raced it in SVRA and other vintage events. It was once on display at the Saratoga Auto museum and PCA Parade in PA. and I also saw pictures of it at the Amelia Island Concour.

I also brought it to the Rennsport Reunion in Daytona.

It was a privledge to own and be a steward of racing history.

Regards

Tom B.

I think that was a typo by John. I suspect he just read the description wrong and replaced Daytona with LeMans in his head.

People don't always get as excited about 914's as they should. I bought a car a few years ago built by Garretson, ran IMSA, even won at Mid-Ohio, paid $15,000, it was even pictured in a book. No, it's not that 914 that they won IMSA with, this car was the next year.
Personally, I love 914's, really fun to drive and many did compete on real levels on the track, but people tend not to want to pay for them, even with provenance.

On another note, I got to look at a friend's 904 the other day that was an ex-Duval car. My friend paid $10,000 for the car in 76, those were the days!

Matt is spot on..I was speaking of Daytona. Not sure where I got Le Mans from. I'll go back and edit that. The car that would be comparable is owned by Steve at Air Cooled racing . I'm sure many have seen it. I was lucky enough to race against it. It's the Conda Green former Kremer 914-6 GT. It was run in Europe then sold to (I can't remember the driver) Meaney possibly? Raced IMSA SCCA in the US. Long story short I believe the ask on that car was $350k-$400k. I'm only going off vague memory re price.

The big difference between the Max Moritz/Meaney car is that it was
not a factory built GT but rather built with the kit authorized and offered by the factory.

That is not a knock on the car , just a fact.

It had a stellar history in Europe and I don't think it ever raced head to head against the Duval car. Its interesting that the Duval car beat the Brumos 914/6 GT driven by Haywood/Greg @ Daytona in 71', arguably its most staunch competitor.

Goodings' comment:

"Fast, rare and just sold for $995,000"

Having a bit of sellers remorse since I let it go for far less about 15 years ago.

At that price it should have found a good home or at least lets hope so.
