Thx Matt. Thank you for your generosity. Not many would be as benevolent as you. You should be very proud of your help. I have Rheumatoid. I’m on steroids and infusions every 12 weeks. I still go into the ICU and place breathing tubes to assisst those in need. Currently we have about 15 ventilated patients. I’ve placed about 4 of the endotracheal tubes. I’ve offered financial assistance to all those in my department who’ve been furloughed. I’ve social distanced not just to protect myself but to protect those around me. I’ve decided it’s not societies responsibility to protect me, but my own. The stories I brought up or not from New York State but from around the country. I have witnessed death in my hospital and I have witnessed alcoholism and famine in my community. All I ask during this is that everyone recognizes there are two sides to this coin. If there were no consequences of shutting your country down for months at a time, I would say have at it. But often times people only look at their point of you. I ask of others to recognize there are other points of view.Lastly, my father fought for my liberty in this country. Whether you choose to recognize that this country was founded on our religious freedoms and constitutional allowances, that’s up to you. But the fact of the matter is it’s true. So while your governor may be one of the better ones regarding not overstepping his bounds, again this is not the case throughout the country. You're obviously directly involved with this. As such, please don't insult our intelligence with something like this. As of today 45,000 Americans have died from this thing. The first case was exactly 3 months ago today. This is a 90 day number. We don't even have an annual number yet, but it will eclipse the 60k annual flu number by the end of the week. We slowed our nation's economy to 5mph to prevent somewhere between 1 and 3 million deaths. The reason we are "only" at 45K right now is because of what we've done. As I've said to others who talk to me January of 2021 if you want to throw around annual numbers in comparison to this thing. We are going to bury the 60k number recently tossed around. It will easily be 6 figures, but that will be 10 or 20 or 30 times fewer deaths than if we didn't change our lives for our fellow Americans.

Lancet is a medical journal which has followed unemployment for decades. For every 10% of unemployment there is a loss of life of 100,000 people (drug, alcohol, suicide deaths primarily)
We will be at 300,000 loss of life when the economy hits 30% unemployment. But I guess those numbers don’t seem to matter to you, just the numbers from Covid death. So may I ask you what happens when we open the economy back up and businesses start back up? And the death rate rises to where it would have otherwise. Or do we wait for 18 months for a vaccine and unemployment hits 80%. You seem to be very knowledgeable on these matters. Can you please enlighten me

Sorry, I'm not wowed by the medical terminology, I know too many doctors personally as I come from a medically entrenched family. I know they are just regular people, sometimes even below average. GASP!

Im trying to find any citations in that article riddled with a poor understanding of statistics. Have any? If you read that and couldn't find the glaring flaws like the fact that stacking different studies' mortality rates into one is actually not good science then I cant help you. Assuming you even read it as I didn't see your 100,000 per 10% claim backed up and it actually contradicts some of your arguments.

The jello wrestling contest going on in this thread has me thinking about one person that I know who is really feeling the pinch of this ordeal is my dear ol' (79) mother. Like many folks her age, she has an out-and-about routine that consists of grocery stores, bank, Target, Walgreen's, Hallmark store, hair salon, etc., and for nearly two months, has not been able to do any of that (basically become a shut-in); I don't think I've ever known her to be so down as now. And I'm sure there are many like her.

This SIP stuff is really taking a toll all around - not what I call living, but does beat outright dead.

Yeah Raw, I think my Mom's 78. Just glad my sister (3 years older) and younger brother (52 like you!) are local and can watch over them. Pops will be 82 on May 6th. So basically, on age you're like my little brother. My little brother is like 6 foot 5, I'm just even 6 foot. How bout Ronnie?

I just reread your posts to try to get a better understanding of your position on this topic. If I read it correctly, you're aggravated at civil liberties being violated on a macro basis. Why should Dubuque be treated like NYC, or some such thing.

And surprisingly, I don't disagree with you. But never underestimate the stupidity of the American public. Dealing with them on a daily basis, I'm sure you're an expert on that topic. It's much easier for governments to declare blanket proclamations than it is to try to enforce a million different ones. Just look what's going on now with 50 different approaches in 50 different states? That approach must soothe your soul, no?

But Americans exercising their civil liberties in this case could turn out to be a cluster duck. I think this thing is gonna blow up in our faces if they're not careful, and clearly people and states are not being careful.

So our approach is to exercise our own social distancing policies and SIP based upon the experts advice. Until we hear the all clear, that's what we're gonna do.

I shared this with the good doctor last night when we privately reached detente. And I agree too. Why can’t you go boating? Make boat mechanics essential employees just like auto and bike mechanics. Florida opened the beaches for running, surfing, and fishing but no sunbathing? wTF? If it’s just you and your kids and you social distance, why not?
