Hope for the future

I know for many in the Porsche world it really sucks right now. Even if you aren't sick or have family that is sick your job or business is suffering. Those of us who have dedicated our lives to the marque can take heart in an experience I had today. I was at the shop, alone, packing and shipping and looked up and saw the Porsche flag flying. It said to me that no matter what, as long as that flag is flying, the show must go on. Take a moment, salute the flag, give thanks that you have a mission in life, the mission of the pursuit of Porsche. Better days are ahead, I promise you that.

Meh. Not the flag I salute. These say there are more important things than my cars.

This was directed to people who are experiencing disruption in their life concerning Porsche business, etc. Basically, stay the course. Yes, there are more important things than cars, but many of us have crafted our life around the marque so it's important to be reassured. Many sleepless nights for people in the business right now.

I’m in the business and my phone’s not ringing much... your post just doesn’t resonate with me.

I get your passion and I agree that things will get better. And that your post is directed to other followers of the marque. But for millions of out of work Americans, saluting a luxury brand is beaucoup tone-deaf.

That’s what I was thinking too. Over the last ten years I’ve witnessed the members of this board bemoan how they are getting priced out of the market they helped create with their enthusiasm. The working class car guy diyers who made Pelican what it is are not all going to weather this storm without significant pain and suffering. Some of them are already selling their prized cars. Most of us in the industry will get through this just fine. This board and subforum isn’t really dominated by industry members like us. The post gave me a bit of a “huh?” Moment. I’ll leave off with something making its way around social media right now.

The live alone bit bites hard for me. I like being on my own as I can do whatever I please whenever I'm pleased to do it, but I also balance that with almost weekly, midnight movies and UFC get-togethers with friends, and the balance is out the window until who knows when. I know it could be far worse, however.

I think had I posted this on a victim's of Covid-19 board it would be tone deaf, but this is a Porsche board. And for you maybe it's just a luxury brand, or a cool car, but for many of us it is a lot more. I know many shop owners who have dedicated their life to this pursuit and now it's crumbling. So while I have been privately reassuring other people in the business I thought I would publicly do it too.

Adam- I hear what you are saying; but as someone who has deployed in war time and peace time (for up to a year at a time) those words (mission/saluting the flag) resonate differently for me. Maybe I’m over analyzing it.

I took it in a positive way. Glass half full, this too shall pass type of way.
Sometimes we get way too analytical/critical, especially when we have too much time on our hands.

Give it a break guys. He meant well.

Anyway it will go, or however one may see it, the market will eventually recover It's those guys who carry the flag and persevere in their craft who may be on top of their game when the market goes north again. That alone is a shot in the arm for optimism I think. It's only my opinion.

Just remember, the people pushing hardest for an endless lockdown are those who will be the least hurt by it. Nancy Pelosi has a $12K freezer full of ice cream and will be fine. Every CNN anchor will be fine. Every Hollywood starlet tweeting from their Malibu home will be fine. And every "expert" govt bureaucrat like Fauci, has a lifetime guaranteed job and will feel no impact. Gavin Newsom will get a paycheck no matter how high unemployment in CA gets.
