sportomatic versus manual values.
Car needs total restoration.
Someone did the switch to manual many years ago.
Would appreciate your input.
Thank you
John

Hi John,

Don't know well about the value question. That's a tough one and I don't think you'll get much response here. Most if not all here would be too shy to get near the stigma associated with a sporto. Not me though and Nathanbs isn't either. He's got enough balls to admit he has one, but maybe because he has enough manual cars to cushion his love for one sporto.

I have a 69E sporto too and I'm not shy. It's a piece of history and its different. I like that. I don't worry about my self esteem like most of these guys that tow the stigma line out of their own insecurity.

Mine is original ROW invoiced to Japan -- a dealer car. Still original 43K. It also needs restoration, but I got it up and running and mechanically sound. VIN/CHASSY is 002X, so maybe the first sporto off the line?

Better you keep yours manual for resale? Would be interesting to hear more and see pics of what you have.

Hi Bernie,
Thanks for the quick response, sold this car to a friend 2 years ago and he asked me to put the question out there.
He is also starting on the restoration. Just came out of the dipping process.
He is gathering all the new body panels.
pictures to follow,
Thanks,
John

Hey John,

Something I thought about today.... Hagarty seems to put manual cars 20 percent over sporto. How reliable that is I have no idea, but it is an indicator.

Your friend dipping the car seems pretty serious! Does he still retain the original sporto trans with the engine and trans matching numbers? If not he might want to keep it manual. Then he's still got a manual non numbers matching car like many out there. Still a manual MFI 69E. He may want to think about investment vs return on that serious looking project on restoration I was thinking, He may still be into it for less than we know, and doing the work himself for almost free? Let's hope so.

Looking forward to the pictures if you get them.

Best of luck for your friend,

bernie
