Don’t know which way to go
I’m considering purchasing one of the following;
-1973 Carrera -1974 Carrera Or a backdated 911 with an engine swap built as a tribute as a Carrera RS. Since I’ve been looking I have noticed that some of these backdate cars cost more than the original 73 or 74 Carrera’s. If I go the backdated direction I prefer a car that is done tastefully. When spending this kind of money on one of these cars I can’t help but look at the investment value, I’m wondering if it will remain the same or is there a bubble about to burst on the air cooled cars? Thanks advance for the replies. |
Not sure any backdated car is anywhere near the cost of a real 2.7 Carrera. If you’ve got the do re mi, and you’re looking at an investment car, go with the real deal for anything close to the price of a backdate.

Depends on if you plan to drive it or just park money in it.

The car you fantasize about driving. I like the 74 out of those choices. It's a one year only style.

Backdate to a '73 or 74? Built to spec or real 2.7 MFI? What back date costs more than a real 73 RS other than a maxed out Singer? |

Kinda odd

2006 Ford GT
2006 Porsche Carrera S 2010 Ferrari 599 GTB 2009 Porsche C4S 2010 Porsche GT3RS Viper Green Buy the 73 2.7L RS..... They have come down a few hundred thousand dollars..... a nice one is $500Kish..... they are beyond fun to drive and will hold value better than any other Porsche this side of a trendy "Singer". |
^ My point exactly.

The OP never mentioned a 2.7RS. He only mentioned a 2.7RS Tribute. Somehow that got lost in the sauce and the thread went off the rails.

Me personally? I’d get a 76-77 C3 and hot rod it. Build the engine with EFI and 325-340hp. And have fun with it. |

I think I am leaning towards a 1973 RS Tribute that has been nicely modified (3.2L, suspension, and brake upgrades) also about 1/2 the price of a real Carrera RS. I am not new to vintage cars (own and have owned several cool cars) but I am new to "Vintage" Porsche's. I appreciate the helpful feedback. |

Talk about a first world problem !
73 Carrera, 74 Carrera, what difference does it make ? Need any tranny parts ? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-marketplace-discussion/1063012-i-m-doing-thing-new-post.html What, too soon ? |

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/414662-metamorphosis-complete-welcome-home.html The car was a hoot. I sold it to a nice gentlemen who has me on speed dial for when he is done with it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1593689977.jpg On a fun mountain rally..... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1593690598.jpg |
Custom build more than a 73RS = not many other than Singer. A custom build more than a 74 euro carrera = most properly built high end builds are more

Tapatalk shows none of that. Clicked the garage link at work yesterday. Love the stable except for the Ferraris. Those and Lambos do nothing for me. The air cooled Porsche is a lot like the 60s Mustangs in their simplicity, performance ability and coolness. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Has anyone seen this? Dick Elvirude 2.7 and Jerry Woods 915, short gears, Canepa fettled. I’d sell my 4C for this to get back into the fold.

There’s plenty of decent ones around. Here’s another white one if the Carrera RS looks is your thing.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/1065066-1970-911e-hot-rod.html The next question becomes do you want to build a car to suit or buy someone else’s already Done. If you want to build one you’ve got 911 Design local to you. They’ve got a car in there right now they are calling the turbo rsr. I think it’s a 72 chassis but has a 3.4 turbo and g50 conversion. Worth seeing in person if you want to “interview” a builder for the job. |

911 design is 10 minutes from where I live. I did not know this but the owner of 911 design is married to Bruce Canepa daughter. I happen to be wearing one of there shirts today.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1593725356.jpg |
Yes he is. She's a sweetheart, and her husband Loren is pretty awesome too.
The nice thing is they are all in one. They have a paint and body division and then a mechanical division. And a Motorsports division. Nice little mini museum too. Jeff Zwart's Pikes Peak 964 is there and the old 45 Flying Lizards 996 RSR, among other. Delivery van is a 993 swapped transporter. Fun shop to visit. |

My brother has a 65 fastback 2+2 he’s owned since 1981. It’s blue on blue with the custom diamond tuck upholstery the prior owner installed in the 70’s. :D It’s a true survivor car. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Shipped to you last year, you've yet to pay Have sent you dozens of PM's on Rennlist Your only response was "what did I buy, don't remember", then nothing I've sent you my paypal dozens of times You got the item, pay up Not slander when it's the truth I shipped the item--have the tracking # and confirmation---and you've been banned on RL by the mods for non payment |
This is a doozy!
I’ve got two very basic questions I’m sure we’re all wondering about... Why would WSH ship an item before receiving payment for it? And WTF does 6S219 stand for? |
