Hey, Look--A $70,000 912!

Hopefully this link works:

https://www.mecum.com/lots/AZ0321-453390/1967-porsche-912/

I know, short wheelbase, yadda yadda, and it presents nicely, but it's been resprayed and the chassis looks meh.

$70k ain't what it used to be, kids!

912 prices are on the rise. I recently heard of one for sale for $150k.

NYNick 03-22-2021 06:34 AM

This one is $117K.

The description must be wrong; the photos show a standard 912 engine.

Tony V 03-22-2021 07:30 AM

Interesting. A 2.2 liter original engine in a 912 and matching numbers at that. Nice looking car but $70K demands more original equipment. (Carbs, air cleaners, oil tank vent, carb heating system, square weave front mat, not Perlon.....)

Mocker 03-22-2021 07:41 AM

Tony, can you get 2.2L out of a standard 1.6L 912 block?

yes, did not look through all the photos, but it's obviously a 4 cyl.

911heaven 03-22-2021 07:53 AM

What's Itzame gonna get once those floor pans go in properly? Perhaps he has a fair idea on his car anyway?

Tony V 03-22-2021 08:01 AM

Willholt sells a 2.2 kit for the 616 engine. Needs to be twin plug, new crank, lots of machine work.....
The Mecum car is not one of those. Mis print or lack of knowledge.

Mocker 03-22-2021 08:15 AM

Thanks Tony, good info. No surprise that Mecum got the description wrong.

Good news on prices rising, I'm putting up a 65 painted dash one up for sale this week.

Stay Tuned.

For $70k, I could have my pick of any of 10 different 911s, far superior on every level to a 912. I don’t get it. I guess there’s no accounting for taste.

You’re too young. For a guy in his 60s there’s a nostalgia piece to it that comes into play. People tend to desire cars that were popular in their youth. Or at a minimum from their lifetime.

Bali Blue, though I did have bookends of Albert once.

So $70k doesn’t buy you a decent 911T from the same time period?

You're not listening. You're too busy trying to win some imaginary argument.

A buddy's father has a 69 912 tangerine with SR, fuchs, great mechanics with only 1 repaint which he has owned since the mid 70s. i showed him the 69 912 on BAT which sold several months back for 70s or low 80s can't remember but it was real strong money. He had no idea his "lowly" 912 had increase that much.

Rare 912s have been on the rise for years now with rare special ordered colors to soft window targas....Not to mention the Willhoit , Benton Performance cars.

This Crystal Blue 912 sold for $63k more than 5 years ago.
