Finding a classic 911

Other than this forum, European collectibles, Ray Joseph rpm motors, and Sloan Porsche. Are there any other sources for classic 911? I’m on the hunt and I’m getting impatient. Prices keep going up and I’m ready to buy. Thanks in advance for any leads.

What’s your budget Schwoo, and are you focused on any period in particular? Also, where are you?

are you following BAT? that's kinda the basis to see a bunch of cars that generally go for high dollars.

This has been discussed hundreds of times. The best leads aren't on the internet. Get out on the street. PCA events, P-shops, race tracks, auto crosses, car shows, cars and coffees, car clubs, car friends. It's not easy working leads, but it's the best way to find a decent car.

If you want to compete with a million other idiots, stick with your keyboard.

Bingo, if you're looking for one car for yourself, put in the legwork, if you find a good one you'll probably never sell it, so it's worth the time. Cars rarely if ever leave my personal collection.

Agree with this. If you wait until they are officially for sale, you’re too late.

As an example, in the past 5 years:
  • I’ve bought two cars off here from people asking what it’s worth. One of them I’m keeping forever. I’m currently buying a 996 GT3 in a somewhat similar situation.
  • I’ve bought one from my local race shop, and have had several options offered to me at a different shop.
  • I’ve learned about several hidden away ex-DE cars from track buddies (make great hot rods usually)
  • someone bought one of my cars at a cars and coffee. I literally went straight from there to his house for cash.

None ever had a for sale ad up

Shhh.. I'm trying to get top dollar for my cab!

Edit:
Wait! 44K is a decent deal on a 97K mile SC? Sh.t! I gotta do some shopping for the value of my 85! Granted I know the engine and trans aren't original and neither is the paint! But I also know the head studs are ARP and the trans was refreshed in 2019, installed in 2021 and shifts like buttah. I also know from seeing the cylinders when I did the head studs that they're in good shape. I also know for sure there are no leaks on the engine. I gotta rethink my pricing on this thing!

Remember that SC targa I posted pics of in the mountains here. You said then let those cars sleep. The SC motor is there and I think matching #s. Should I wake her up?, No time for another project car, but it has me thinking about it again. I think the color was wine or burgundy but I don't know all the color names. That was not so long ago, I think on my own thread.

If the IB surge replicates the long hood run up you will be able to sell as a project for a tidy sum.

Finding a classic 911

You might consider reaching out to Techweenie (3rd entry down on the long list above). Bill is a good guy and he knows the ins and outs of these cars very very well.

You can pm him here or go via his website.

Techweenie.com

I am working with him on a longhood restoration and have found him to be honest, knowledgeable, very fair, and really great about keeping me informed. So far it has been a very good experience.

Best of luck!
