Price check 3.2 cabrio

A friend is moving out of state for a née job and is thinking of selling his 3.2 Carrera cabrio. He is really struggling on how to price the car. Car is black on black. Black Fuchs with polished rims.

The good - 59,000 miles, He is the third owner, posi, raised hub steering wheel, 16 inch wheels, no paint work ever. Really good paint. Maybe not concours but not far off.

Bad - an original power top cabrio that shows some age and doesn’t work, and AC that needs work to blow cold.

He is a fair minded nice guy and will probably price the car too low. What is a realistic price he should be asking for this car?

That sounds like a nice car, with some work. How are the valve guides?

$40 to $45 quick

With time and sorting all issues $60,000+

Still a Cabriolet but it’s summer.

I saw a decent one with unknown miles and inop A/C sold on BAT for 37K
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1985-porsche-911-carrera-72/

There are two currently running on BAT.

Only reason I'm even paying attention is because I'm thinking I might sell mine. I'll probably offer here and on CL first. I'm not sure how much value people put into operating A/C in a Cab. I generally only drive my car with the top down and I'd guess many cab owners are the same. It's part of the reason for owning a cab!

I agree for the most part. I would pop the top in good weather. Who wants to go for a spin on a ****ty day anyway?

The other thing is, I doubt many folks are buying a cab to DD it. Part of why I'm thinking of selling mine is that it lacks function. It's fun to drive but that's about it. I would have loved to take it for a 3 hour round trip the other day but where the hell do I put 4 UTV tires and rims in that thing? So... truck it is!

Or just sell it for 52K and let someone else deal with it.

What is the cost for a top? A replaced one on a bug for $3,000.

Not sure he really "needs" a top. Most tops are wrinkled. Clean it and put some 303 fabric guard on it. The biggest issue is normally that cheap back window they put in the thing. I think he said the power top doesn't work. Either convert it to manual or fix the power top but either one isn't going to break the bank.

But right now we're just guessing since we don't have any pics of the car to work with. The mileage, if verified, is the big thing here.

It’s interesting to me that both NADA and Hagerty classic car values have yet to catch up with a lot of the money many are saying the air cooled cars are worth. Month after month goes by and their numbers change little. But on this forum, they are going sky high.

On B.A.T they're going sky high.

Weird! Do you ever look at NADA classic car values? Or Hagerty? I just do not get it.

I was reading some of the comments under and auction where a 1985 Cab brought 37K. The car had 315K on a "refurbished" odometer so actual miles were unknown. People were congratulating the buyer and talking about what a deal this was. I was shaking my head in disbelief at what it brought. Cracked dash, unknown miles, cruise that doesn't work, A/C that doesn't work and who knows about head studs or synchros in the transmission? Great deal!
