A good example of a 964 Targa 2 will be in the $80’s assuming maintenance is mostly caught up.
Finding a nice C2 is extremely difficult, especially finding one that isn’t Black, White or Red. It took me over 2 years to find one.

Yep, I did exactly that. Bought a C2 coupe with 93k miles for $18.5k in 2011. Sold it for more than double back in 2017. No regrets whatsoever. Never liked the looks or the driving experience which felt heavy and sluggish. Insanely overpriced right now. Not worth it at all! I currently own a 1978 SC and find it to be a much more rewarding experience. Do not waste your $$$ on a 964.

Opinions, everybody has one.
Personally I have driven an 84, 993 and 964 in the canyons and my takeaway is that the 964 is the perfect balance between the older 911 and the 993. The biggest takeaway is that all of these examples need to have proper suspension and alignment done on them to extract their true capabilities. I ran my Targa in the canyons before installing suspension and it scared the crap out of me. It was ponderous on center, leaned a bunch and couldn’t hold a corner worth a crap. After proper suspension, bushings and corner balance it felt incredible in the corners.
As far as looks, that’s purely your opinion. The beauty of the 964 is that it’s one of the few Porsche air cooled platforms (other than longhood) that can be personalized to your taste and still look great. Can’t really say that about the 911, other than Fuch’s and maybe RUF wheels on the later models nothing else looks “right”.
