Crazy 914 Selling Price - even for BAT

Something stirring in the 914 arena - or just a lucky seller?

Nicely restored rust free examples seems to command high prices lately. This one is a 914-6 currently on BAT and bet it goes for 75K-90K.

914's have been very strong. Glad I've got the 3 I do and bought them when I did. That yellow car, if the seller does a good job, will likely sell for $100k or more. The dealer is European Collectibles and they don't know 914's very well but saw an opportunity to get into the market and bought a collection of both 914-4's and 6's that they are selling off their site and on BAT.

Really nice 914's have been bringing good money for awhile, but, and it's a big butt, this doesn't mean you should go out and start picking up all the craigslist specials for $1000, they are still only worth close to nothing. The same with large stashes of 914 parts, close to worthless.
When I'm doing a buy out I don't touch any of the 914 stuff, it's a really cheap crowd and there are way more parts and parts cars than actual cars left. Every 914 guys has 1 car on jackstands and at least one, sometimes three parts cars in the yard.
So unless a 914 is damn near perfect, or a part is NOS, don't think this is the next 356 in terms of value.

Yep, agree with Adam. When I sold my 73 this spring, I threw in the extra engine and boxes and boxes of spares because it was the easiest way to clean my barn. I’m not gonna spend weeks selling $20 seat belts and $40 fan housings, etc.

I’ve still got two on jack stands, the Bumble Bee and the 70 -6 conversion racer.

Mine is finally back on it's feet, progress!

I agree. I've got a buddy with a hoard of parts, most not worth going through. There are a couple of guys, Bruce Stone is one, who do a good job of tracking down things if needed. Of my 3, the 1970 Tangerine is a runner I picked up last summer, which had been sitting mostly unused for years. Brakes, shifter bushings, fuel system refresh, new tires and it was back and driving. It still needs a few things. I have a very straight, perfect interior 72 that I bought for $1,500 a few years back that is an 80k original mile car that again, sat unused for years after the PO took it somewhat apart to get it painted. It's going to get new paint and the mechanicals refreshed. The 3rd is a GT clone that I'm prepping for vintage racing. They are fun to work on and drive. I'm glad to see the values increase but none of my small Porsche herd were bought for investment purposes, including the 356.

Bruce Stone is willing to do the work to clean up and peddle the parts. He’s got a nice little niche there.

The 75 on BAT was a fair price for that car. It is expensive and time consuming to get a 914 in this condition.

J&T,
You’re 109% right, and people restoring them to such a high standard will make them all worth more.

This one will be a good gauge of the current high water mark.

J&T, I would say your car is heads and tails above the BAT car. It was nice but yours is probably better than new. Simply stunning what you have done.

Thanks a lot! I love these old cars . This one is a bit more restored than the Palma car.
