Knowing that a halfway decent respray is around $15k, what sort of money does a backdate cost when you get someone else to do all of the work?
I don’t mean wide arch, everything new type thing, more a keep the car the same colour and swap over the panels. |

Thanks. Was that a colour change?
Door jams, inside the engine and front are pretty time consuming to paint as well for a colour change. |

Either that or with an 81 sc. :)
Seems a shame to mess your old special order paint Carrera. I guess it would be a nice backdated color though! |

It is tempting.
Was chasing a 65 912 today, but the owners a bit of an idiot (or very cunning). I asked for pictures of the floor and they lifted the carpet to show me how un rusted the insulation is. Pretty much every picture missed the point (picture inside the wheel arch shows darkness and the edge of the arch nice and bright). No picture of the underside as requested. Picture of inside the hood shows how nicely painted the fuel tank is and little in the way of images around it. Too much risk to spend the thick end of $35k on sight unseen. Backdating does seem like a good route to follow - especially basing it on a known quantity of your own cars. |

Didn’t mean to mislead, but although I’ve owned all those different cars, it’s only ever been one at a time. I’m just a regular middle class guy who got lucky and bought a 964 cheap back when they were “dogs” . Since then, I’ve just traded up and down for other 911s. And I don’t miss my 964 at all! It’s been my least satisfying 911. |
