Owned one, spectacular car, upgraded to a gts….wife’s car but I do all the long-haul driving…..wouldn’t change a thing. The S has a great motor, the convenience package gets you good seats, (14-way), and keyless entry……
Make sure the car has the right basic options, stuff like the LED interior lights, without that package, you don’t get lights on the sun visors….and in 2015 there are no vents for the backseat passengers, might not be a big deal. Our Macans have been very reliable, but basic maintenance - if you want to do it by the book, can get expensive. Be sure the pdk has been serviced, expensive to replace and only a few repairs are possible without a $15k bill to replace. Plan on $2k minimum for any service, annual, tires, brakes….etc….if that’s in the cards, he won’t be disappointed. Our S had 60,000 miles and no major failures when we sold it 18 months ago.

My wife's car/suv is a 2015 Macan S. It was a very high spec one owner car we bought from our local Porsche dealer. Higher miles (I think it had 60k on it) but they CPO'd it based on condition and previous service history. She loves it. I love driving it. The back seat is small compared to a Cayenne and storage is also diminished. Ours had what the dealer described as a very rare PDK failure early this year at around 70k in miles. Luckily we had taken a long one day trip and it happened close to home. My wife only drives a few miles/day so it may have not happened for quite a while had we not taken that trip. We still had 6 months on the 2 year warranty and it was replaced. Ours had a failure despite on time factory service of the PDK. I'm not sure how widespread PDK issues are but you hear them described as robust. Sorry for the ramble. Happy to answer questions.

I know nothing about the Macan, but will just add that a new replacement PDK is no longer the only option. BGB Motorsports has recently been named the exclusive service facility for the US for ZF PDK gearbox products. They can be rebuilt.

if the conversation is focused on PDK (I know I opened the door)....that other renn- forum has some stickies about PDK faults, fixes and more.....pages and pages of reading about what failure modes are most common, some fairly inexpensive fixes that are available. @Matt Monson, it's good to know about BGB.....

Good to know there will be repair options down the road. It was odd and frustrating not to get any info from the dealer. Porsche just deemed it "mechanically failed" after a few tests. My indy Porsche guy says the Macans have been quite good as far as reliability overall. I will say that after over 70k in miles and now 6-7 years old it still looks new inside and out.

Thank you.
I'll pass along the information. It's at the Porsche dealer and only has 37K miles. He said it would come with a 2yr warranty. But with the working from home life for them it won't get driven much. I guess the safe thing is to just service the PDK.

IIRC the "PDK" in Macans is a VW unit, not the Porsche unit, and yeah those VW transmissions live and die by correct and timely fluid changes.

Timing cover oil leaks from broken aluminum bolt are common. It is an engine out expensive repair if it is out of warranty.
