Newbie looking for thoughts on purchase

I’m looking to purchase my first 911. Fortunate to have a healthy budget. Looking for a long hood (swb or lwb) but not a backdate. Not really looking for an S as I would like to be able to do a mild hot rod. Tasteful updates to suspension and engine (p&c, cam upgrade, twin plug maybe, etc), dual exhaust, etc… If I found a fairly complete mild hot rod I’d be good to pay 150k-180k depending on build out. Otherwise I’m wondering if I should find a good T and put 50-80k of performance upgrades into it as I go along. Any thoughts on this? I saw this car at RPM Garage in Dallas. I realize a good PPI is important. On the surface this looks like a decent price for a ‘73 T MFI but appreciate some opinions from people here. Figure maybe a good candidate to add some performance updates to? Also saw this ivory one online from CPR classics but think asking 130k…maybe seems little high. Anyone have thoughts value and how I should do this?. I.e just be patient and wait for a decent hot rod to hit BaT or get a great condition T in low 100k and add to it? If I posted this in the wrong place let me know and please take it easy on me I’m aware of my amateur/newbie status but appreciate everyone here’s suggestions as you have way more experience in this than me.

I’m unfortunately not in the same league as you from a $$$ point of view, so it’s difficult for me to talk about the value of the cars you are looking at (I have a G body and about to buy a 912).
If I was in your shoes, I would contact someone like Techweenie, as it sounds like you don’t have much experience with 911s and there are enough charlatans out there, that will gladly take your money for a polished turd.

You mention PPIs are important, but don’t forget, these are quite specialist cars and may come out badly on a PPI, by someone who doesn’t know these cars too well. Even if it is a typical car for the breed and price.

Someone like Techweenie, looks at these things all day long and will also be able to give you some idea of what the going rate is.

If I was in your fortunate position, I would spend the money using a knowledgeable consultant, rather than getting my arm ripped off by some out there - and there really are some shady guys dealing in 911s.

With me, my cars are closer to the $30s and $40s, so you can expect some issues!

I work with a few shops who build to order cars in your price range. Yes there would be some time involved but you could have the car of your dreams built for you.

You should be able to find a very nice hot rod for far less than your budget.

I would recommend you not get overly glamoured by costly twin-plug conversions and over the top builds. There are plenty of extremely vast '69 - '73 Ts with 2.7s, 3.0s, 3.2s out there that will be reasonably reliable and complete for the low six figure mark and below.

I would recommend either or both on advice. Techweenie's reputation precedes him on this forum obviously. I've never met him or dealt with him except that I sold his (rather his friend's) 73 RSR rare alloy bonnet pornographic, and I did see pics of it years before. I did that for fun right on this MPF, so he kind of owes me one.

The other guy Paul I also recommend. I spoke with him via phone about bringing my 69E Japanese dealer car to the US a couple years back. He's honest and said no, that car belongs in Japan. Then, prices had come down from the peak. He say -- at peak a 73T was 90 plus K now 60. Moreover no one wants to restore an E (to concours). They want to restore an S! They do fine restoration there and I have been in there years ago. Used to live in Costa Mesa close to them decades ago. Good example of Porsche central. I think he's originally from Denmark or Finland or ...

I’ve responded a cpl of times thanking everyone for the post. I’ve been checking these post a cpl of times a day for information. Now on BAT only at $112 w 3 days to go. After checking out the sellers receipts, experience, replies and what it is, I'd be surprised if it does not get bid way more from someone else. It looks like a different type of car than the ideal 911, Blander389 is looking for. Looks perfect the way it is.
