Wondering about prices on 73Ts
I just sold my 69 Z28 RS Camaro, and my 69E 911 Sportomatic looks to be out the door shortly, so last night called a friend and offered him 11k just over for a 73T. He said he'll think about it. Am I getting lonely for another 911? The only car I've got left to go is the BTR RUF..
If I get it for that money I'll buy it, work on it and get it going. I know more about the 69- 73 E, S or RS, but never paid attention to the T too much though I had one 70T targa that my father wrecked in my absense. I got confirmation this car has carburators. I spent a brief 10 minutes with it looking it over almost 2 years ago, even posted pics here somewhere but don't remember where. I think it has a sunroof (but don't remember) and no rust in the body (well remembered). Engine original but needs some TLC on the body etc. mostly some paint. Mechanically it's been sitting for years under cover inside and dry. My question is more about 73T 911s. I know 73 is a good year. Wish it were an E or S, but could I go wrong if he takes my offer? Thanks for any 73T insights! bernie |
Surely you jest? $11K for a longhood? You could easily quadruple that price and be ahead of the game.
A T is simply the bottom of the model range for that year. If there truly is no rust and the engine is original, you'll hit a home run. Getting it out of Japan is another matter but my God Bernie, people would kill for that kind of deal in the states. |

I would assume you meant a Targa Top instead of the Sunroof you mentioned since it is not a Coupe but a Targa model. On another note, I have complete MFI system for a 2.4T. Everything you will ever need to take it back to original spec if it is a U.S. model and originally equipped with MFI. As a matter of fact, I had tested it today on our bench for a thorough inspection, testing and flow test at different RPM’s. Good luck on your endeavors to hopefully acquire the 73T.

I hope none of my 'friends' offer me $0.20 on the dollar for anything I own.

When he showed me these cars, it was summer after the pandemic began. He was hurting and trying to sell me something. I told him I don't have a dime, trying to save 1.3 mil JPY to rebuild my BTR motor. We haven't spoken since until last week. This culture is based on informal relationships. It's not what you know, it's who you know! That is opposite to your culture on more formal relationships. Welcome to culture 101 M2! |
There’s a difference between flippers and friends. Friends don’t rip off each other. That car is worth 2-3 times your “good faith” offer.

You don’t want commentary on your deals? don’t make threads asking for input on your deals . It’s that simple.

Bernie, I speak only for myself. I posted in agreement with another, who felt you were really low on your offer. Yes, it was snarky tongue in cheek, playing on your silly posts about vw karma. And then you lost it, again, because you have an issue with me. You can hide my posts if you find me offensive.

Nobody cares is an idiomatic expression in common usage. Nobody cares that you run marathons. Nobody cares that you built a 10 second car. Nobody cares. It’s like meh or whatever. You’ve been away from America too long.
|
Perhaps there is a logical explanation like the car looks like a porforauto candidate. If not, I'm curious how one low balls a friend in need and doesn't see any issues with it. Posting the offer on the internet and then taking offense at criticism is another head scratcher. Sometimes there is no explanation for human behavior.

First of all for the Canuck. I am a dual national, got my citizenship 1.5 years ago automatic since DOB because my parents born and raised were Canadian when I was born in the USA. I'm a Canuck now so I won't hold it against you! :) Since Y'all are so damn serious, can't read between any lines I'll explain a few things but not much. I need to leave room for your education on such concepts. Dude is a foreign car restorer, got cars all over the place Porsche 911, Ferrari, a whole warehouse of 911 parts, 964 and lots of engines. No way I could pull the wool over his eyes. If he sells me the car for that money will you be pissed off? He may counter offer, but just so you don't go off post, this is still hypothetical. You can scratch your head until you go bald! Don't assume you know everything about every market or culture. Your petty flipper accusations don't add up to dry dung. We are friends and that won't change. This is just business if you hadn't noticed, and Oh, just a price thread on a project car possibility. It will take time and money to get it going. That's MY time and the PARTS cost quite a bit of MONEY. Think that through you thick sculls... |
Nobody cares.

Just an otherwise ulterior question on 911T. Would delete sunroof or slick lid be higher for value than a sunroof.
The 73 RS touring model I had 20 years ago had a sunroof. #101. I have to dig for these pics I took on this 73T. I think it has one, but can't recall. I would guess value on a car wouldn't be that different, but how about desirability? |
For when you flip it?
Slicktop is an easier sale with a little more value. |

I think early sunroof cars are more desirable - and when you get into G body cars the sunroof deletes become more desirable.

This could be a really good sub-forum. It's obviously an interesting subject for anyone with an aircooled 911. It is not a place to spend enjoyable time for two reasons.
1) Matt Monson has decided this is His Place. 2) 911 Heaven argues badly with the above. Both of you need to shut up and give this forum some breathing space. IMO. |

This is hilarious. Some random who has spent the last twenty years lurking instead of participating in the forum tells Bernie to shut up, in his own thread, and Bern’s response is ,”yes boss, right away boss.”
