Help pricing a 2.2 and 901

Considering selling my 2.2 race motor and 901 trans. No leaks, no issues. Still currently in my car. Only potentially selling to help pay for metal work/restoration costs. What do you guys think I can sell these for? I don't have the engine and trans numbers off hand. Car is at the body shop but I can get them obviously

2.4 built on a 2.2 case.
Case modified for windage, timecerted head studs, piston oil squirters added.
85mm Wosener pistons, 11:1 compression.
Carillo rods.
Webb cams (The grind is close to a GE80).
40mm Weber’s
Early aluminum oil pump.
No oil leaks.
Light weight all-aluminum pressure plate from 71S.
Transmission is a 1971 901 with A, Ga, M, R, V gearing (no issues).

Hi Michael,

The problem with small motors is that the people that are interested in them is a very small pool. They take a lot of money to build, but they do not produce a lot of HP compared to a similar cost to rebuild a 3.0 or 3.2. If you were willing to do a compression and leakdown test and post pictures along with the build information you would make it easier to sell. Unfortunately I would guess it's probably $7-12k depending on the right buyer who wants a smaller displacement engine.

Thanks guys. I don't have a build sheet. I can get leak down and compression testing. Appreciate it

Interesting thoughts... It might not appeal to the BaT RSR / Backdate Clientele but it definitely would appeal to the traditional long hood / 914 contingent... 200hp is more than enough for most street hot rods.

You are right Price is highly contingent on condition......

+1 without the documentation it will be hard to get more than ~12K, if the compression and leak down are good. That said, I agree that the cost of building these little displacement motors is 25-30K (it is what we paid) and most build 3.0’s to get the HP/$, but the sound and throttle response is unique.
