This sold on BAT today. Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Very nice condition but I was blown away. 80's build quality, they rattled and hummed when going down the road. Granted they were high end in the 80's but is this really worth $111K? I don't see it. Reading the comments, lots of rationalizations for why a Jeep GW is worth that but I don't buy it.

This is a cult thing. Jeep people are crazy nuts for Jeeps. Personally, I think they're POS, but hey, to each their own.

Back in the 80's there were no SUV's. If you wanted a 4WD station wagon, you could choose from a Wagoneer, Land Rover or Landcruiser. Broncos and Scouts were a smaller breed, more akin to smaller Jeeps.

The Jeeps were/are American made, Land Rovers were expensive and British and Landcruisers were little known Japanese imports that had just grown up from the FJ's. Doesn't leave much to choose from, really.

Of course, $111K is dumb but there's a top for every pot.

They are awesome Jeeps though. Super, super comfortable and very utilitarian. My boss had probably five of them, when he wasn't driving a Ferrari Boxer or TR, this was his main car. Kind of Ralph Lauren-ish back East, people dug them bigtime. They rusted like heck though, and that rear window never stayed on track...

Not wrong. Big time Hamptons, Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard type stuff. Even more so today. Who doesn't want a beater wagon you can take to the beach and not give a ***** about?

That's what makes this one so valuable. 33K and pristine. Not to mention the new Wagoneers are over $100k too! Who woulda thought?

Yeah that's quite a bit over the top had one of these and a Grand Cherokee back in the eighties both real turds but before the wave of SUVs these Waggoneers particularly were all the rage in the estate crowds..go figure haha ...

considering the how the carb'd early YJ wranglers (87-90) 4.2 straight sixes are problematic for emissions and reliability an early 80's rig like that could be an issue. not to mention fuel economy, or lack there of. The YJ's improved in leaps and bounds in 91 when the 4.oL FI models were introduced. I got my 93 smog tested last week and at 111k miles and original cat I was amazed at how far under the testing limits it was.

remember, the early SC's had more horse power than the card'd vettes of the same era.

I am an FSJ fan. Family always had FSJs starting with a Super Wagoneer all the way through a '91 "Final Edition" in black cherry over tan. I have owned (3) myself and I would never pay 6 figures for one.

suburban and the INH travel all were the even bigger SUVS and had V8'S in the 60-70-80's

both were pick ups with a body on frame to be a covered back SUV

now we have tons of small SUV but few are real pick up based OR HAVE REAL FRAMES
and the once common small pick ups are all grown larger or dropped and came back bigger

with very few basic tiny trucks made any more

I had an 83 Grand Wagoneer that looked exactly like the one sold on BAT back in the late eighties. What a piece of S**T!!!!!! No more American cars for me after that debacle.
