Value question for 912e
I acquired a 912e and am wondering if better to resell it with a non matching 912e engine OR with an 3.0 SC engine and trans?

I value my 912e with 3.0 the same as I would an SC, or maybe a little bit more, if that helps.

Yup, I think our 76 912E’s are more valuable and sought after with transplanted 6 cyl. Mine is a 3.0 / 915, and it’s a blast on rallies in the NC/TN mtns and local BBQ runs around Raleigh. Original 4 cyl holds little appeal to me.

Pull and "pickle" the 2.0 engine and gearbox. Install a 3.2 with a 915 box. Keep the 2.0 for future use.

Thanks all, I'll be dropping an SC drive train in.

Never been a fan of these. That can only help the value.

Sorry, but it can be a lot of fun with a Jake Raby built type IV, SC HP and lighter.
Don't do Anything that cannot be undone, like them or not it is still only a one year car, built to use up the Type IV engines Porsche contracted with VW and until the 924 was fully ready.

Jake makes great stuff and he even owns a 912e, but for that kind of money I could buy a running 3.6 and drop that in.

If it’s a running driving car you plan to flip, the time and energy to swap it won’t be worth the return. If it’s a roller, and you can weld, why not install a 3l.

1976 was also the first year Porsche started fully galvanizing their tubs, so most 912E's don't suffer the rust issues of the early 912's.

I disagree that the 3.0 swap creates more value. If you sell the car with its original engine and sell the 3.0 separately, I think you will maximize value for both buyer and seller. Right now there is a wtb ad for a 912e over on 912e help-check it out.
Also, you will have to do some cutting and metal work to mount the oil tank. and add more wires front to rear for a temp/press gauge if you change the gauge over. |

I'm no purist but keeping it an E and selling your other drivetrain will net you the most money unless you don't value your time at all during the swap. Personally I like the type 4 especially with the factory fuel injection. It's slow but all of these cars are in stock form. I appreciate it for what it is, great MPG and cheap to rebuild/ maintain.

The 912E only had 86 horsepower!! I think an MGB had more!!! But it would be fun to keep it in the garage and wax it and stuff.

I have some 1968 912 stuff I'd like to sell. PP doesn't have a 912 category in the classifieds. Where are all the 912 aficionados lurking?

If they are parts that crossover to SWB 911, just list them here.

@inaminit I sent that guy an email, but he is not interested in a project, yet says he'd do paint and and engine rebuild, go figure haha. I don't have the original engine and it looks like sourcing one is around 4k. Also, 3rd gear needs syncros. So I was thinking of installing the SC drive train to get around both those issues.
I do have 1 of 500 with a sunroof ( broken of course). I have driven a 912e from IL to MD and it was not as quick as my narrow bodied 3.0 swap. I do like the backdate option, but I think im just planning on selling the car as a swap.

If you do go ahead with your planned swap-please post a list of any 912E specific parts that you want to sell-either here or over on 912E help. You may help another E owner stay on the road!

If I didn't already have a 912e-6 I'd see about buying yours as a project. As a side project/ not putting a price on your time, its a good way to get into a 911 for cheap.
