Is there a good time of year to sell?
Thinking about selling my 1972 911T Targa that I have owned for 31 years. Wondering if there is a good time of year to sell?
I suspect this has been discussed before but I didn't see it in my very quick search. Tough decision but as I consider many options, I can't help but wonder if there is any any value in holding off until spring...? Estelle is the black one below. Thanks, Matt ![]()

Usually targa’s and cabs do better in warm weather but since prices seem to be dropping, now is probably better than later.

We don't sell cars between November and March. We found over the years that cars either didn't sell well, or sold to other dealers who re-sold them in the Spring. So if you're selling a fairly normal car during this period you are essentially wholesaling it.

Market for a targa hot rod is unique and somewhat limited. While this time of year normally is slower with a reduced number of buyers, your pool is already small. I say list it, and don’t be surprised with not much response.
Or sell it on BaT. Cars like that will still bring interest and excitement.

Wait for Spring Fever to set in.
If a car sets on the market too long some people assume there is a problem with it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks, guys. I was considering BaT as well as posting here in the classified. I hear low reserves dictated by BaT are sometimes an issue, but the only way to know is to go through their process. And unfortunately the car is on a rebuilt title complicating things.
I think I may start the BaT process with an plan to post in the spring. Thanks again, Matt

Yea, a rebuilt title is usually a pretty big hit to price.

You should really give some more details. is it the original motor, that'd be a 2.2? more photos.
great looking car. what is the interior like? are the wheels legit? if it is not a sheep in wolf's clothing it will sell itself. you gotta share some details if you want any sort of comp.

Late spring / early summer based on my observations.

Be glad to give more details. Engine and transmission are from a 1986 911 so 3.2L. Wheels – I’d have to go back and look for the company name. I have records going back to 1992. As I recall they took 16 inch Fuchs, cut the center and put them into 17 inch barrels. 9 and 11 inch widths. Interior is good. Needs a vacuum. Just went to the garage and took a couple of photos. Was about to say everything works but actually the radio doesn’t work. Mechanic told me. I had no idea. I haven’t turned it on years. Did some suspension upgrades a while back. Not a race car but a bit stiffer than stock. Wevo shifter. Larger sway bars, etc. Recent service included: oil change, valve adjustment, new injectors, fuel filter, new gas tank and fuel pump, shocks, transmission oil change and new gasket, brake flush, new fuel lines in engine bay, rebuilt pedal bushings, new tires, new batteries. My plan at this time is to have it thoroughly detailed. Paint is 20 years old. There are some visible flaws. Take a bunch of photos and submit them with the write up to BaT. I like the idea of holding off actually posting it until spring but I may start the process before then. If there is interest, I could do the write up I planned to do for the sale and post that here. Wheels are from Lindsey Racing. Just went to their website and Jack Olsen's Black Beauty is prominently displayed.

That dash with no cracks is worth $$$.
Sounds like an awesome car.

That car is awesome, and if it drives as good as it looks and as described, you've got a winner on your hands. A longhood hotrod with a 3.2, 9's and 11's and all those goodies? Wouldn't surprise me that's a 6 figure car.
Having said that, Springtime is best. A lot of the country is hunkering down for the winter at this point, so you limit your buyer pool. Still, I think this car will sell quickly. I think it's cool as hell.
