How's the 996 Market?
Thinking about selling my '01 996 and would like to get some opinions on a fair price. The limited research I've done shows prices all over the place. Yes condition is everything as well as options. Here is what we have:
2001 996, silver/black w/ typical Options, 3 spoke wheel, litronic lights, leather, etc. 96k miles Complete engine out maintenance just performed (all hoses, belts, starter, plugs, coil packs, AO separator, sensors, anything plastic or rubber that looked marginal was replaced. MS Bearing inspected, no issue, not replaced. Regular oil changes all clean/good. Tiptronic with paddle shifter mod, new wheel. Tips are not generally loved but once you add the paddles it's a game changer. Very rewarding mod. iPad conversion, 2 din, cup holders underneath (iPad is removable) Soni sound system with large rear parcel shelf bass speaker. 19' Crab Claw Wheels painted black, 245/315 tires w/ 4k miles on them. Litronic headlights have been tinted in dark film which can be removed. Also have brand new projector headlights that were recently tined with a lighter film to reduce the bling a little. Covercraft dash protector. Entire car wrapped with protective film. Front grills added (black) That's about it. Car runs perfect and has no known issues, everything works. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Forgot to add this is a southern car, never seen salt.
Wheels are 8.5x19 11x19 off a 997. Battery replaced about a year ago. All OE parts are included such as tiptronic button steering wheel and 7&9x18 wheels and tires.

I’ve been watching the 996 NA stuff after selling my 05TTS 18 months ago. 100k mile tip car is 20k. Less the further from stock it gets. People are also super paranoid around the IMS topic. Many won’t touch one of the bearing hasn’t been replaced.

Here's what my reaction was:
996 No IMS replaced 100K miles Tip Mods Good maintenance Decent color I think you could probably get a first time Porsche owner interested. $25k?

That car should be able to get $25k. Pelican is not the place to sell it. FB and IG are where you sell that. There are a lot of millennials who don’t drive stick and want a “vintage ” sportscar.

Appreciate the feedback!
IMS bearing does not need to be replaced, it's one of the 90% of these cars that didn't have a problem. The engine's been out twice sense I owned the car and the IMS was checked both times. A lot of shops made a lot of money chicken littling the IMS bearing issue IMO. Changing out a good bearing can cause problems or leaks, don't go looking for trouble. I would think that the mods I have done would help resale, not hurt it. All are easily reversible as well. This was the first water cooled Porsche I've ever owned, great candidate! Yes I do not plan to sell on Pelican. Thanks!

Worth way more with the early lights. Factor in an extra $5k over the .2 lights.
But not in this colour combination. IMO this one is limited by the dark lights, glass, and wheels. If that can all be returned to stock, silver wheels, clear glass, and lights, then the car's worth a good few $k more. Sent from my SM-G988B using Tapatalk |

It is more valuable stock? Really?
This car was really plain when I bought it. Putting it back to stock and selling off the cool parts would sure put more money back in my pocket! ![]() ![]() ![]() Putting it back to stock would be extremely easy. Tint peels off the headlights. Switch wheels & tires back. Swap back the OE steering wheel. Pop off the iPad (cup holders are underneath it now). Stereo would take a little time to swap out, would be a crime to do that. I can see putting a classic back to stock, such as an air cooled 911, but a 996? Should I really do that or put it up as-is and see what happens? Appreciate all of your opinions as it does help to see things from different angles. .

I didn't do it on my 40 Jahre before I sold it. We put it openly and plainly in the ad, as well as results from cutting the oil filter just prior to listing it for sale. Nobody even asked and the car sold in 10 days.

I doubt a buyer at this price point will even care about the mods. If you think it's worth your while taking them off and selling them, have at it. Me? I'd just list it as is with the stock parts coming with the deal.

I think if you have the parts, put it back to stock. I wouldn't go out of my way money wise to do that. If I put myself in the buyer's shoes, I don't necessarily want what you like. I'll do my own "making the car my own." That's part of the fun of having a car like a Porsche.

I have thousands of dollars in those parts, the new headlights alone were over a grand let alone the wheels & tires. If the market doesn't want them I'd be nuts to give them away.

Put it out there with the parts on the car. You can make it stock a month from now. See if you can sell it as is today.

I really didn't have a price in mind which is why I posted here.
The wild cards (to me) are the tiptronic and the personalized mods. In my mind the tip issue goes completely away with the paddle shifter, that is just plain fun! The other items just make it look so much nicer. It's been over-maintained so that's not a problem. But in the end the market rules. Here is how it looks today. ![]()

I don't disagree that the Tip gets a bad rap, you really need to drive it with the paddles to see how transformative the experience is. I live in the mountains where an automatic is a whole lot easier to deal with in traffic.
Appreciate the link! That blue car has some issues and the seller wasn't very helpful in the process, but it's a data point.
