72 T Project

I have resigned myself that I won't be able to continue with my 72 911T resto. I'm going to have to sell it. The chassis has a few rust-throughs but is generally in solid shape. I've done one inner/outer rocker and the other needs replacement. There's some holes in the pedal area that are simple to patch. The battery tray was swiss cheese. I was working on that when I got sidetracked. It's removed and I have the RD panel for it. ICar is on an octagon rotisserie.
Engine is disassembled but I've had some top notch work done: Thorough case work by Ollies, MFI pump rebuilt to "E" by MFI Werks, 86mm P/Cs AA Nikasil with JE calico coated 9.5:1 pistons from Supertec, new internal bits and pieces from PP: all documented.
Trans, engine and chassis are numbers matching.

AI puts the value of this a lot higher than I thought, $40-55k and even more if the engine is assembled by a known builder.

It is one of those times where I really do know what I have. I also know I could easily hit the higher number if I parted it out.

What do you think?

This is a tough spot to be in with a project because you've spent a lot of money and put a lot of time in, but only to get back to square one. What this means is people tend not to get excited by expensive machine work or MFI money spent, because the engine still needs to be rebuilt. As well as metal work, they just assume if they are buying a chassis it should have good metal, no matter what you had to do it get it there.
When people see a project like this it really scares them because unless you can do a lot of the work yourself you'll spent $150,000 finishing this car. Anyone who has done a car can appreciate all the time and money you have spent, but anyone who has done a car from this stage might not have another one in them, so it's a double edged sword. The people you impress with what you've done aren't buying and the ones buying aren't impressed.
With that being said I would put this car at somewhere in the high teens to low 20's.
Hope this helps.

Prices are way way down from what they were.. America is in 2008 type of recession now.
Basket case 911T is worth what someone willing pay.

I just purchased a bunch of these and resold them.
Shop owners and flippers will pay 3 to 5K ..
A old timer that wants to fix one up has a hobby 5-8K

It's worth what it's worth, and people will pay what they will pay.

The Idiot speaks!!!

I will soon post a long story to several boards about having been scammed on a 993 4S in Europe which did not exist which will certify my claim to "The Idiot".

I'm one of those old guys Adam mentioned... and willing to take on another project, but at the right price. I had a 72T with 2.7 engine built to RS specs but with Webers. Really great combo.

Yeah, I'm not on here as much anymore. Parting out the big stuff will hit $20k pretty quickly. I hate to go down that road.

The problem with one man parting a car is that you sell off about a third to half the car, and then are stuck looking at the rest. So unless you have a back 40 to park the stuff, you haven't solved any of your problems.

Now if you have a yard to stick such things in, you can wait for another day.

Obtuse!

I'll let everyone else pass judgement and I will just LAUGH!

I was seriously interested and appear to be the ONLY one who has expressed a serious interest in this. I have the space, the funds, the skill and ability, the desire to actually finish these projects, have purchased 3 additional Porsches in last 3 months from actual sellers, got SCAMMED out of a big chunk of change by most likely some European organized crime syndicate on a fourth(I do intend to write the story and post it as a warning to others very soon), have the cash readily available and would have flown up last week to see exactly what he has as i had some time for once.

I went through the BS of posting stupid posts to get the required 10 posts needed to PM on another site he listed this on (where he has ONLY a single post... OH THE HORROR) just to be able to PM him. Hunted down his for sale post here and sent him a PM and this is what I get back.

WOW... How could I be so obtuse? I had no idea I was supposed to be posting in order to qualify for such an amazing opportunity! I very well expect to never see another 72 for sale ever, anyplace on earth... until maybe next week. I guess spending my time running my businesses and with my family has all been a huge mistake as i should have been posting!

Good luck to any interested parties, you can be sure I will not be bidding your offer up.

Mikey

Hey Mickey,
This is a marketplace discussion. I HAVE NOT PUT IT UP FOR SALE. So you saying you're ready to fly here for a look is extremely presumptive and premature. Please note there are some very good, thoughtful posts on this thread and I thank them for their time. Yours aren't any of those. You seem offended, indictive and dismissive all in 2 responses but, hey, your post count is going the right way.

With your experience with scammers, I thought you'd be a little more understanding of my reluctance to discuss this with you when you have no history on this forum. Please note I've been on here for years and have a significant volume of posts for anyone to take a look at. I creep other sites like Early S registry but Pelican has been my home.

I will probably be selling this fall. You will probably see it and I hope you get past this little tiff for the chance at a boxed up, numbers matching 72 T. If not, my loss.

Tom

I'm fortunate I have this all boxed up on one shelf and the chassis is on a rolling rotisserie. But I get your point. It will take time/effort/treasure to do it piece by piece, certainly a consideration. I'd rather sell it whole.
