Engine number decode

I'm checking out a '71 E on Sunday. The MFI must have burnt out the original 2.2 because the OO had two rebuilds on it . Anyway, the car currently has a 2.7 with major rebuild 12k ago.

The engine number is 6561640.

From my recollection, the second digit reflects the year of the casing. Correct?

I'm not up on 2.7's except that they had failures that required rebuild, and once done, they were a strong motor. Smaller valves than bigger displacement flats, w/larger ports & higher revs.

did these 2.7's change at all during the mid 70's?

What was the compression ratio on the stock motor?

Any thoughts on what the stock cam profile was?

When a stock 2.7 is desmogged, what do you think realistic torque and hp ratings to be?

BTW, the car does not have CIS. now has webers.

thanx

joe
