1969 912 value

Hi,

I found a 1969 912 with 97K miles. I don't know much more about it and I'm certainly no early Porsche or 912 expert, but the car is appealing because it's relatively cheap--~$7K and it has had only one owner.

I have the PML from May, dedicated to 912's and it seems like this is right in the middle of their (admittedly limited) range of sold prices.

I'll try to attach a snapshot of the car that is in the ad.

TIA for any comments.

Looks nice- get it PPI'd and if it come back clean I'd go for it- it's not going to depreciate; that for sure!

a '69 912 is a great car. It is the most refined of the 912's (discounting the '76 912e).

However, don't confuse "cheap" with inexpensive to maintain. The body pieces are 911 parts. Rust is rust whether its on a 911 or 912 and BOTH can be costly to repair.

912 motors, while smaller and less powerful, are also not necessaril less expensive when it comes to rebuild time. While there is a small dedicated market for 912 motor parts, over time, they will become more expensive (mostly due to the machining of special parts) A similar vintage 911 has a greater engine parts supply.

If it PPI's well, and you like it, by all means go for it. A one owner car with a documented history is a neat thing.. you simply won't be an owner, but a caretaker for another generation!

Might want to check with the 912registry.org site, they know most of the cars that are for sale, and can save you a big headache.
