I agree with the first poster. I cant believe how insanely high priced the early cars have become. 5-10 years ago no one wanted em. Now, heck, a regular, rusty "T" is suddenly 10K and a concours S is 50K? I miss the days when they were as common as a belly button

My brother just bought a '70T. So, he and I have been watching the early 911 market pretty close as of late. Anything nice (good mechanicals AND nice cosmetics) is at least $20k and you have to move pretty quick if the car is a good one...

I've said no to more than that....But that because I've owned the car since 1974, simply not interested in selling.

However, for those of you looking for an early car, hang in there. I do believe the market has peaked, and will be turning around, with prices going south. I'm seeing more and more nice early 911 cars on the market. Those who were speculators, flippers if you will, are bailing. Flippers who borrowed to buy in order to sell quickly for a planned profit are going to find themselves being carried out feet first. This is good news to me. It means that some of these cars will end up where they belong....in the hands of true enthusiasts.

I must say- the days of buying Ts for $7500 are long gone. The majority of offer I got on the car were from Europe. I also denied the prices of long hood cars for a long time. The sheer volume of correspondence I got on the car was nothing short of amazing. If the deal I have pending falls through, I will keep the car. It is a perfect restoration project, as cosmetics account for 90% of what needs to be done. As far as values, just look what a good fender is worth, or a good dash, if there are any. I wake up in a different Porsche world every day, never knowing what I will decide. Check out this link-makes mine look cheap-

I saw one just over a year and a half ago that the owner turned down an offer North of $130K for. It was a "time warp" '73 S non sunroof coupe in Signal Orange with about 40K miles on it. Zero restoration; museum quality. And the guy (occasionally) drives it on the street.

I guess if I do restore it, will put the rubber bumperettes back on. That car is wonderful. Im amazed at how the letters on the engine lid fade from black to silver.

I'll say it again, prices are way up. Here's another example of a high mileage S not even selling for $40k.

'73 S

Even if you have a million bucks to blow on a new car, there is nothing you can buy new that will duplicate the sound and feel of an early 911.

I'll agree with that one!

Condition is everything on these cars. You can find a rough 'S' for $18K (one for sale on our boards right now), and you can still find rough early cars for $2500 (one just sold on our boards). Prices are all over the place. $22K is not bad if the car is perfect, although I have seen many rough cars that people thought were worth this money - they are not.

Wayne said it well...it's sort of a pay it all upfront now or pay it all over time thing via the cost of needed repairs and parts. And if concours is your bag (The '73S in the pic above) you cannot make a silk purse out of a sows ear. No matter how beautifully restored, a restored car is not an original car...

IMO, Barrett-Jackson is more of a side show than a true auction. That hemi Cuda ragtop was one of 14 made? How about finding an UN restored original one, with low miles? Probably doesn't exist, but if one did, I'd imagine an even higher figure...

Well, this one ain't un-restored, but it's got low mileage. This car still needs work to be concours!

70 Cuda
