value w/o chain tensioner upgrade?

My question is: Should I spend the money to do a chainn tensioner upgrade on a never tracked street car before selling it. How much will it cost and what would be the return? I bought the car from a friend for the purpose of reselling it (hopefully to make a few bucks). It is a 1977 Grand Prix white Euro 911 with painted wheels. It has 83K original miles. The modifications include a 930 steering wheel, a short shift kit, Koni adjustable shocks (lowered and set up be Peter DeVries) and a Euro SC whale tale. It is a factory 4 speed. The interior is about 9.5 and the exterior 8.5 to 9. I also have the original shifter, the original wheel and decklid.

The chain tensioner upgrade says someone wasn't afraid to throw some money at the car, which is usually a good sign. It's not a necessary upgrade, but rather it says that someone cared enough to give the very best.

It's a tough call if you're selling it. I'd say go without it, as most people are afraid of 2.7's anyway, so you'll be taking a bit of a hit because of that. If the motor has never been opened up, chances are it will need to be sooner rather than later thanks to the thermal reactors. I hope they were removed and the 5 blade fan upgraded as well. They would mean a lot more to me than the tensioner upgrade.

Optional move is to buy a new kit complete, about $450 bucks, and throw it in the deal w/o installing it. good looking car BTW.

I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think you'll get your money back on the deal....

I thought 77's had the 3.0 in them?

The 1977 911's for the US market all had the 2.7 liter motor. The 3.0 did not appear in the US market until the 1978 911SC.

There are European Carrera's out there from the mid year catagory (1974's to 1977's) that used the 3.0 motor.

I'd also say just skip the chain tensioner update. You'll get 1/4 to half of the money you spent on the tensioner upgrade when it comes to selling. As LvSteveH states, the main issues of the 2.7's are the fan and thermal reactors and whether or not they have been respectively upgraded and removed.

If you car is as nice as it looks, it'll move quick even being a 2.7.

Are you speaking of Pete at Kelly Moss? If so, Pete's the best!! He's been working on my cars for years now... We're fortunate to have him around and available.
