1984 Porsche 944 2.5 N/A
What is the going value of early year 944's?
The price of repainting a car seems to exceed the market values of 944 early models. I would like to hear your comments about this car? Values? Large segment of buyers? Limited interest? |

as with most cars value depends on condision/milage
say 500 for a parts car to 5000+ for near mint with the added factor of the cam belt/water pump age and the ruffly 1000 cost of replacement in a shop add in the limiting factors there are a lot of them with a big change in the 85 1/2 cars and the later cars are better and rarer so they limit the price range for the 83 and 84s somehow paint values are NUTS now blame the EPA |

Paint cost
I just got my 911 painted. The car required very little body work and was very solid. I was quoted 8k to 9k for a paint job. This was a base coat / clear coat system. Cheap back yard paint jobs go for 3k.

I picked up an 83 944 for $1700. Mechanically in pretty good shape (just had a major service, incl. timing belts, water pump, etc.) but cosmetically poor. The body had tons of small dings and a poor paint job, the interior was maybe 5/10. I had some bodywork done and the whole car repainted. Luckily someone owed my dad a favour and it was done for cost, otherwise yes, the body work and paint job would have been more than triple the price of the car, easily. And I don't expect to see that cost on resale.
So now I'm into it for maybe 4K, which I doubt I could sell it for (even in Canada, where prices are higher) but it's now enjoyable. It's my winter car, so I'm not concerned about it being perfect.

Condition will vary
Nice clean cars will always retain value and will fetch higher dollars.
I learn a long time ago, that purchase the best car you can afford. It will cost you less in the long run. I would say a #2 car would bring 5.5k to 7.0k. What do you guys think? |

thats 85 1/2 up money for a #2 car
values of the early cars are very limited by the later cars values you have some turbo's and 944S 4v cars under 10,000 some way under and too many 85 1/2s around 5000 or less for an early car to go that high but as p t said there is one born every .... so ymmv |
