'83 sc Euro
There's an '83 SC in my area for sale, it's supposed to be a Euro. I haven't looked at it yet, my question is what is the engine type number ? 930/10? I want to know what I'm looking for/at when I do see it. In Wayne's book is that what RoW refers to? Also I really wasn't looking for a Euro specifically but it is what it is. Are they worth appreciably more? Lastly, what's a ballpark figure for one with low mileage. I'm in the northeast. Thanks in advance.

According to Bruce Anderson's 911 Performance Handbook on page 243, the Engine Code for a US Version '81, '82 and '83 911SC should be 930/16. Research on this board indicates 930/10 is Euro or "Rest of World" engine.
Also, the VIN will be WPOZZZ..... where the ZZZ designated Euro or R.o.W. ("Rest of World.") In addition the 5th to last number in the VIN will be 0 for R.o.W. 911SC or Carrera Coupe, 1 for R.o.W. Turbo Targa, 2 USA 911SC or Carrera Coupe, 4 R.o.W 911SC or Carrera Targa, 5 Turbo Coupe USA and Canada and 911SC or Carrera Cabriolet R.o.W and Japan, 6 Turbo Targa USA and Canada and 911SC or Carrera Targa USA and 7 Turbo Cabriolet USA and Canada and 911SC or Carrera Cabriolet USA. Obviously, condition dictates price. Last edited by 70S Targa Guy; 12-09-2006 at 03:33 AM.. |

RoW = Rest of World. Typically translated into "euro".

I go to Simons SC site constantly to check VIN numbers
for all 74-89 cars, and for performance data. I believe the Euro versions had significantly more power and so some people look for them specifically that like to Race. http://www.adelgigs.com/911vin%20numbers.shtml http://www.adelgigs.com/911performance.shtml

Given the age of the car, Euro or US won't have a price impact and if you have a guide to US spec cars, use it. At this age, it is all about condition, histroy records and how a PPI checks out. SC's run from 10K-20K (or more, if they are 100pt concours or podium club race cars)
By '83, the RoW cars would still have a slight power advantage over US cars. The most annoying part of SC HP researches are 1) DIN or SAE specs and 2) the year. Some year had a change in compression and while US cars may have always been rated at 180hp, som sources indicate they actual enjoyed an unpublished hp gain, to 190-195hp. Euro SCs also had a range of HP quotes over the years. No less than 180 (us was no less than 172) and no more that 204hp. Confused? ok. An '83 euro should have about 200hp In addition, the euro may or may not be as well optioned (AC, Leather, Sunroof etc) US cars were much better equipped in options, but they cost weight.

Engine type: 930/16 is US model.......930/10 is Euro/ROW
Visually, Euro SC's usually have marker lights on front fenders. Some lack a r/s mirror. Oil cooler in r/f fender well. Best reference is ZZZ in Vin and 930/10 motor. |

I think the Euro/RoW 83 SC may also have the 28 tube brass oil cooler in the R/F wheelwell, as compared to the US 'trombone' cooler. If you've looked at the trombones in US cars you will immediately recognize the difference!

930/10 is the 204 HP engine with cylinder compression 9.8:1.
