Value? 1988 944 76k miles Blk/Blk

A good friend of mine is looking at 944's. I'm not very knowledgeable of these cars so perhaps you guys can help.

There's a black '88 944 for sale in Newport News, VA with 76k miles, garage kept, serviced by Stuttgart Services in Williamsburg VA, supposedly in excellent condition, with all maintenance up to date.

The guy is asking $6500 negotiable.

If the car checks out what is a good purchase price for this 944?

Thanks for the help. We may have another Pelican joining the board soon!

$6.5k is toward the high end of the spectrum, but it's not beyond reason. If the paint looks great, if the interior looks great, and if your friend has a stack of receipts from the mechanic showing a recent timing belt service (recent = less than 10k miles?, less than 1 year old), he could get the asking price. Also needs to have working AC, no oil leaks or interior water leaks, etc etc...

Basically, if the car looks great, drives great, needs nothing, and he can prove it, it's worth about what he's asking. Otherwise, average to good cars do indeed go for $4.5 - $5k.
