Shipping large items

I just sent a fiberglass bumper from San Diego to South Carolina and it cost me $116 FedEX ground. The high cost was because it is an oversized package. There has to be a cheaper way to send large, lightweight parts. I have several FG bumpers I plan on selling in the future, any shipping recommendations?

Has anyone tried Greyhound?

I used the "Hound" once. Shipped some stock sport seats
(read heavy) from VA to San Diego, $79...a bit cheaper than
Fed-Ex.

Curious,
Does one have to pick up, and delivery at a greyhound depot when using their service? Also, are we talking a greyhound Bus company, or something different than a terminal?

We are talking the greyhound bus terminal. Some stations do shipping and others do not. There is a list on the web site. The person receiving the items will have to pick them up from the bus depot. Greyhound will call them and let them know the package arrived. I shipped a hood for $60 from Philadelphia to LA, and it took about a week to get there. Package the materials safely though.

DHL might be a little cheaper. Fed Ex is one of the cheapest 'door to door' services' for large packages.

ForwardAir is a terminal to terminal service. I just shipped a 914 hood to NC and it cost around $80 (which BTW is their minimum charge). You'll also have to pay for the shipping via a money order once they figure out charges when you bring the box to them. www.forwardair.com

I got an online quote to ship the same bumper from CA to FL via Greyhound, it was $60. You have to pick it up at the station and they won't insure it over $300.
