914-6 value range

I have a customer that is offering me his 914-6 for sale. Motor has been swapped out to a 2.7 w/ cis, but the rest of the car is to be original and rust free. What is a wide price range that these cars sell for? I know next to nothing about these cars.

Condition is everything. Even with an un-orginal motor, the price range could be $15-25K.

I guess I would make sure its a REAL 914-6 to begin with. Even with a "wrong motor", there is an inherant value in being a 6 than being a 4-cyl converted to a 6.

ok.. don't ever show pics like that again

Looks a little "rough".

Check the battery box area (they rust out). Check the longitudinals too (rust). Trailing arm mounting points. Hows the rear trunk (rust there too)

Missing lots of original and, therefore, hard to find chrome and trim bits.

Did he cut into the trunk to make room for the air cleaner/Air box?

My guess is the interior "matches" the exterior?

I would be hard pressed, based on these pictures, to even want to offer more than $5k and that might be generous.

It looks like it is just needing a wash.

Bumpers are easy to come by.

Is it a "real" 914-6 with a vin # that starts with "914"? ( '70-'71 )
Could be worth $10k, easy.

VIN is 9140432142. Original color is Signal Orange, currenly red. I will ask, but I think the owner took this car appart to show that there is no rust in the typical problem areas.

I agree. Plus those longs look really nice and the area under the bumpers look great.

The car does come with the original bumpers and trim.

Sounds like its a good buy? What's this car's value if it came with a correct, but not original 2.0 motor along with the 2.7?

What would you offer the seller if it were you?

Thank you for all your input. I have decided to go ahead and purchase this car based on your help. BTW, it ends up that this will be a package deal w/ the 2.7, extra correct 2.0 w/ correct webbers, AND the original motor which was torn down for a rebuild that never happened years ago, a car load of various parts. The car came from New Mexico - hence the solid chassis.

Think I found a keeper.
