How many years before a 996 or 997 sell for $10K?
Anyone care to take a stab at this question?

Trust me you will not want a 10K 996/7 they will be complete maintenance nightmares. Just look how expensive our simple 911s are to keep up.

Over in Pelican Classifieds there have been many 911s offered for sale for $10K. It is a legitimate question in my opinion. I wouldn't have wasted the Pelican board members' time asking this question if I didn't think it legitimate. So let's hear your insight...

I just got the new Excellence and in the readers sale report seems they had a 996 for $28k with and ending remark that prices are falling fast for them....
the newer the models the less expensive the models being replaced become...

I'd like to know how easy it would be to DIY on a 996. I think as the prices fall, more people will DIY and therefore a larger DIY community like the one for our air cooled 911s on Pelican will appear. I know rennlist is out there but I don't think there's as much DIY going on over there as there is here.
Now to answer your question, I don't think they will EVER hit 10k. By the time that many years roll by, inflation will prevent it. Unless of course the car is completely wrecked and not very driveable. I don't think they'll drop below high teens. Scott p.s. My comments are strictly for the 996. I don't think the 997 will depreciate anywhere near the 996s.

I see Boxters in the teens on a pretty regular basis and 996's in the mid 20's as well. The cars may have issues but a new engine on a 996 is about what I was quoted for a top end alone on my Carrera. I have heard though that Porsche has stopped, or is planning to stop, subsidizing the 996 replacement engines.
BTW, a Porsche Mechanic I've used for almost 20 years says the 996's are VERY reliable cars in general.

About the same number of years it took for a 944 to sell for $5k.
