What makes this 911 so rare?

What model is this? Looks like a Speedster. Is $125k in the ballpark?

125k is too much. Half that is more realistic. Tiptronic alone can't help. I remember one of these for sale locally around 50 - it sat forever. It takes a special buyer to get excited about one of these. The 3.2 versions go for about 50k in very good shape.

125k is a joke. I used to own one, its a 1994 964 speedster. I see them priced in the 50's these days. The fact its a tip makes it even a harder sale. They made somewhere in the area of 450 speedsters I dont know how many were tips but even though that adds to the rarity its not going to help the price.

The tiptronic makes it "rare", but it doesn't make it desirable. Bit difference!

Crack head speedster

I called the guy a couple of days ago as the car is very close to me. It has like 58,000 miles and is just a regular US car. The old man thinks that because they only made a few Tips, that it's priceless. It was everything I could muster not to cuss the guy out for wasting the printed space and my time. $35 -40K car- TOPS.

I traded emails with him and he sounded like a very nice guy. I told him about the market for those cars and IMHO he sounded very surprised. My advice to him was to buy a set of standard seats and sell the hard backs and enjoy the car. I didnt realize he had 58k miles its a low 40's car IMO.

Only a very few 964 wide bodies were made in 93/94.

Most 89 speedsters destined for the U.S. were turbo bodies.

My friend bought a brand new black 89 U.S. speedster from a local Southern California dealer back in 89 and it was a narrow body. Thats why I said "most" because I know of one 89 narrow body; as rare as they are.

I offered him $25k. Here's his response:

Dear Danny Ocean,
Not a chance. I love this car and it beats any other Porsche I've been in.
The true NADA book value is 59,000. Due to the rarity of this model you
would never see another wherever you drive. The owner of Orlando Porsche
dealership has seen it and offered 70,000+ or trade for new one. Their
chief mechanic has been servicing my car and says he could get 70-80,000 any
day. Most people don't in fact like this car but they are misguided.
Thank you for your offer and if you ever get the chance to get the 964
Speedster I suggest that you do. You will love it.
Sincerely,
Lawrence

LOL. If "book" is $59k, why is he trying to dump it on some sucker for $125k?

Geezers....sheesh.

I dont blame the guy for being pissy at that offer but its no more rediculous then his asking price or that BS abuot being offered 70k for it.

I think Ray Joseph at RPM gets top dollar for his cars and they're usually very very nice cars here is what he thinks the price on a 38k mile 964 speedster should be.

http://rpmsportscars.com/door12.htm

Note its less than half of the asking price for the subject of this thread and it has fewer miles and its a 5 speed.

Anyone wanna buy Ray's and hit that 70 bid in Orlando?

I don't see this as any different then some of the silly asking prices I have seen lately for 911T's. Everyone has an over-inflated value of "their" car, and some people just reckon if they put something ridiculous out there, some fool might just come along. My car is always for sale, $30k and its yours. No harm in that, except that some people then start to think that these comical asking prices are the market.

I've noticed that a lot of Porsche's end up selling for half of their asking price. Sometimes even less. Its a strange market.
