value of this SC?

deal's almost done on this SC. it's essentially a one-owner car. the guy I'm looking to buy it from has only owned it briefly. it's a 1980 euro SC. has working A/C, power everything, sunroof, starts, runs and drives like new. 126K miles. interior is flawless, original paint with a few touched up rock chips, good compression, no smoke or leaks. don't think it's spent a night outside in it's life.
SC prices seem all over the map lately. I'm more familiar with the longnose market. anyone have any thoughts? price is 13K. I could get out with a few lost $ if that's way off base. any input much appreciated. Don.

I don't see a downside to this one. What else you buy for that price and have that much fun?

Seems like a decent deal. You did check for broken head-studs right?

Price seems right. I place a premium on ownership continuity.

If its as good as you say and you are okay with the mechanicals then thats a reasonable price. Dig the euro seats.

As a ROW car shouldn't it have side markers on the front fenders? Looks nice in any case.

Yes, it should. Means it has been painted, at least partially. The other issue is miles. Make sure your seller has DOT documentation on the speedo change.
Every euro car I have come across for sale, can't produce this info. They all seem to have low miles until you discover the speedo had to be changed.
Then you ask, why is the motor so messy and the car repainted with such low miles?
13K would be good deal if you are satisfied with the cars condition but remember, if you can't verify the facts, you may be in for a money trap of a car that could end up not being worth it had it been given to you :-)

The euro SC I had did not have side markers either. Could this have started later?

Cheers

well, an update. got the car home. not original paint but a very well done respray. never really checked the engine. I figure even if it needs a rebuild, still a good deal compared to local prices. saw a near identical car on CL today near here for $22K! no evidence it ever had fender lights. I'm very pleased, it's really in mint condition. not QUITE as slow as my first impression but still a heavy car. my wife will enjoy driving this more than the '73 or the '66. the SC seems more of a 'chick' car anyway. feels kind of 'dead', no personality. ( if you consider a tendency to swap ends 'personality' ) I really don't like flares much, but I've got some spacers coming. I figure, if you gotta have flares, you might as well fill them up!
( there! that should get all the SC guys going! ) ( wait! now I'm an SC guy!
)

to Luke. I had to sell my silver baby. not entirely sure what happened to the seat money.

"dead-no-personality" you should definitely get the engine checked.....probably you are not getting everything out of it.

Just wait until V8 Ranch reads your anti-SC comments.

BTW nice car.

If you can get more than $12K for an SC with >100K miles in a private sale, you are doing well.
If that's original paint, check it in sunlight. The clearcoat is probably gone.

Nice looking car! Whoever converted it did a pretty complete job, at least on the cosmetic stuff. Would be kinda cool to put it back to Euro specs - headlights, taillights, front turn signal fill ins, etc.
