Value of 79 930, last 50 made for the US
Out of curiousity, do you guys think there is any added value to the car if it was one of the last 50? There is a 79 930 on ebay right now and he has a certificate that states his car is one of the last 50. I don't think there would be any additional value as the 930 was still produced in RoW and came back to the US in 1986.
When I bought my 930, I was pleasantly surprised to find this in the glove box. It looks like I have one of the last 25 produced at that time (according to VIN). ![]()

To me, being one of the last 50 produced for the US market would not add any value to the car. Condition, compared to other examples available, would be far more important after 29 years than where it came off the production line. Perhaps being the first and/or last example of a particular model would carry some weight with collectors, if that could be adequately documented, but I don't see how being 1 of the last 50 is all that desirable or unique.
Just my $.02, TT

Hmmm,
My 930 is #12 of the 1978 production run, so should that be considered one of the 1st 50? I didn't find sqaut in my glove box! Seriously though.. think Tom is spot on with his assessment. Paul

Yeah, I'd agree. I think it WOULD be worth more if the 930 wasn't brought back in '86 (even though it continued uninterrupted ROW). But when they brought it back to the US and sold a lot of them from 86-89, that kinda killed the early ones.
I remember in the early 80s, when Porsche said they would never sell the 930 in the US again, the prices for US 930s were crazy. I think they were well into the $75,000+ range, as used cars. That was a ton of money in the early 80s. |

When I bought my 86 new. I too looked at the 79s and determined that I was just as well off with the 86. besides it was nice to have a new car for a change. :-)
