Funny story about an RSR-look car
I got a '74 coupe a few years back, added a '75 2.7 engine (car and drivetrain from Pelicanheads) and painted the car Mexico Blue.
Because of a move and investment in a new company, I had to sell the car and after a fair amount of time advertising and promoting it (with full disclosure), sold it @ under $9K -- about what I had in it. The new owner had it for a year and a half, lowered it, put better wheels on it (probably other stuff, too) and recently sold it. Within 12 hours it ended up on eBay with a "story" and is now bid at $24K. That's a lot to pay for a gold '74 sportomatic sunroof car with some 'de-contenting' and a pretty color... but that's the marketplace. Link: http://tinyurl.com/5rszjl I guess as a marketing guy, I shouldn't be surprised, but I could never bring myself to promote the car as a "210 HP" "Street legal RSR."

at least it doesn't have a motormeister sticker on it. that alone makes it worth lots more.

LOL.
I've noticed that the 'Motormeister' provenance doesn't seem to hurt the eBay cars. From purchase as a quasi- C2 Turbo look to "RSR" ![]() ![]()

Interesting. I saw that car in the parking lots around the Monterey/Pebble Beach events last weekend. I thought it looked familar but I could not remember where I had seen it before.

If this car was emulating anything, it would be a 74 Carrera RS 3.0.
This is an rsr... ![]() Anywho, I think that this really marks the beginning of the end. We are now down to the last of even the Euro speculation buyers... the uneducated. I would love to be a fly on the wall when the new owner takes delivery and gets stuck holding this bag :-) Last edited by car-reras; 08-23-2008 at 05:46 PM.. |

What this car was emulating was RSR chassis #9114600075, the Mexico Blue '74 IROC car, which some may remember was delivered with the ducktail. But what do I know. I only built it.

LOL.
Thanks for the link to the page, Car-reras, where the second paragraph starts:"In the process of collecting photos of each of the IROC 911 RSR entries. .." What a maroon.

Did you do the body work personally or have it done? I want to get some tips on mounting the front bumper FG. I have the same body work on my car: duck tail, RSR (74 style, short hood) front and back.
I can't see the rear bumper on yours, but I assume it is like this: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?t=426618

I got the car with screwed-on fiberglass flares and re-did them with three times as many screws plus a beading strip to highlight rather than conceal that they were added. Also trimmed the rearmost part of the rear flares, to look a little better. Your guess on the rear bumper was right on. What I did to mount the front was create flanges for the top of the bumper to sit on and add bolts through the flanges in front of the wheelwells -- both on the steel and on the 'glass. In other words, all the fastening was along the top endge of the bumper. Had I finalized the car to track-ready, I'd probably have added lightweight braces from the bottom edge of the front corners back to the tub. On the rear, I replicated the factory bumper shocks using PVC tubing and galvanized fencepost clamps to attach to the bumper. Also made a long flange to hang the center and did the same flange-to-flange attachment as in front. Neither bumper was really "race weight," and the car had maybe 160 HP, so I didn't feel I needed a lot of bracing. Had they been lighter, or the car faster, I'd probably have gone to brackets and dzus fasteners.
