'69 coupe, less than 100 miles, original beetle

Was part of the estate of an obsessive/compulsive pack rat. I've not seen the car but will this weekend. Supposedly, it is nearly show room new. Best case scenario, what's it worth?

Sorry for not being P-car related but it is german and aircooled....hopefully the gods will have mercy on my post.

Post the question at www.thesamba.com I'm sure you'll get all sorts of responses. Pretty cool find. You should keep it.

So, I saw and imaged the car today. The car has 47 miles on it. It's black w/ red intierior and is dusty but apparently has never sat outside. It fully seems that the car was purcahsed and driven home never to be driven again. The owner states that he wants $39K for it. I think the car is valuable but question his price. I'll post images if I can ever get Vista to resize them.

The value in this car is simply because it hasn't been driven. Every mile you add will obviously be expensive. Sounds like the car has the potential to be a museum piece, but not sure how one might justify the price. Have you asked the seller how he has determined the asking price, which is probably 5x the price of the nicest example you could find?

O.K I'll say it............."Do you realize what you can buy for $39,000.000"? Better yet, does the seller? Stop...........really. Get it out of your head.

I fully realize what $39K buys. I'm not selling the car. I'm relaying information as it is. Now I'll say it...I know it's tough but don't be a dick.

One of the greatest 'contributions' this car can make is to help document exactly how these cars came from the factory for future reference / restorations / judging.

I'm talking about how every wiring clip is bent, crayon marks, type of fastners, tool kit, etc. etc.

cool find.

This car looks too perfect, not a hint of dry rot on those hoses, the carb looks like it just came out of a box, no yellow aging on the stickers, no signs of surface rust, not even spider webs. Nixon was President when this car was made, even if the car has been in a zip lock bag for 40 it would not look this good. Just rememeber, like a 911, the worst thing you can do to a Type 1 is not to drive it. I really hope you have the find of a lifetime, but it just looks too good to be true. For $39K you could smuggle a fleet of low milage 03 air cooled Beetles from Mexico =)

It is extremely nice but not perfect. There was a fair bit of clutter around it so I couldn't get to every square inch of the car. I did see some surface rust on the accelerator, brake and clutch pedals. At least one tire sidewall had been damaged from going low and sitting on it forever. The car was dusty so I can't comment on the paint. I think that if the owner wants $39K, he has two hopes...VW america or someone w/ more money than sense at an auction.

I hope that someone buys it soon. Right now, it's sitting in a garage which:
a) has daily driver traffic that is bringing in melting snow....which results in humidity condensing on cold surfaces (like this car) and
b) is also a workshop....so there are bits of whatever is being worked on flying about and coming to rest on the car.

Would be a very cool car but again the minute you drive it the value would crash. The only way to hold the invested money would be to park it.....forever.

Boy, those SAMBA boys are are a friendly bunch, eh?

I am no expert but I do not think that car is worth almost $40k. $20k is what I can imagine, if the 'no miles' are true.

George
