It sounds like you currently have exactly what you'd be looking for: a fun daily driver!

Oddly enough, I think my wife agrees with you guys (on not selling the 911, at least not now). I'll probably ending up getting a beater car for the daughter, although insurance is out of this world for her as the sole driver.

I agree with Techweenie (and your wife). These cars were made for driving, not sitting around! If your not commuting 200 kilometers per day or constant stop-and-go traffic (tough work with a 915), it could well be the most pleasurable exprerience of your work day - at very least, a great way to start one off and to end one.
Six years ago, when our first child was born, I was "forced" to use my '86 Carrera Cabriolet as a daily driver for 6 months (May-October). I only had a 80 kilometer-or-so round trip commute, but it was often stretched on the way home by another 50+ kilometers. In retrospect, it was one of the most enjoyable summers/falls of my life. Keep the car! Get a deal on a safe, newer, fuel efficient car for your daughter.

Okay Mike, take it from the old man, why do you have to buy your daughter a car, espeically at the age of 16?! And to think you'd sell the real joy in your life (come on admit it). I am not going to get into how you treat your children and what a great father you are for even considering a ride for her, but the last thing you want to do in your life is to sell your 911. Even your wife see's that!
Personally, if your daughter got a part-time job and became a responsible party to ownership of a car regarding paying for her own insurance for example, you'd be surprised at the outcome for respect for the all mighty dollar down the road. Unless your daughter absolutely requires a vehicle at this point in her life, take stock in that 911 you look at every day and love to drive. You worked hard for it and its yours to enjoy. If you were my best friend, I would simply say, "you nuts" for sacrificing your car, so your 16 year old can get on the road. Dr. Phil |

Reminds me of my neighbor. Two years ago he bought a beautiful '64 Malibu. This car was quite something. Tastefully hot rodded, the seller must have had 40K into this car. My neighbor buys it for song (15K). Why was the guy selling the '64 in the first place? So his kid could go off to college and live in a dorm. Brilliant
