I'd be interested to know what more knowledgeable posters here think of this car, advertised in the "For Sale" forum:

Make sure you have closely evaluated / PPId the car so you understand the level of commitment [$$$$] required to bring the car to your level of finish both; esthetically and mechanically.

I agree. It seems to be a good deal if an RSR clone is what you want -- in theory can't replicate at close to the sale price -- but the devil is always in the details. Get a careful PPI from a top shop to see extent/quality of the work, and then figure out finishing cost vs cost of finding/buying a 'finished' car. In my seaches for various cars, most PPIs 'failed' -- not because the cars were 'bad' per se, but because it didn't make economic sense to 'correct and finish' the car. In my experience, it is usually cheaper to by a car that is 'finished' (although I rarely take my own advice!)

I know that car from it's previous life prior to backdating. It's actually a decent car mechanically, and was not bad at all structurally.

I almost bought that car to do a later style RSR conversion. It was the perfect candidate as it already had a very well done steel widebody conversion, that need some TLC because of time and use, coupled with the fact that the engine had a very respectable build bit need some fine tuning.

I found something else closer to home and almost free that I couldn't resist thus a fellow Pelican obviously ended up with the car. I was surprised to see that he decided to backdate the car with the intention to sell. It's a bit incomplete but most of the hard work is done.

Personally, I think it's a lot of car for the money.. just depends on what you want & if you're will to spend the bucks to get it sorted and correct to standard. Though I'm sure it's a hoot to drive just the way it is!

As far as cost to finish vs. finding/buying a finished car... I guess we're speaking to aesthetics, over performance.. and admittedly, it's a hard call when some shop is sorting everything for you, it could be a good value dependent upon how much hands-on time you put in to finish. On the other hand, a lot of this car's value is in the motor. That car will run like a rabid dog when tuned properly. To duplicate that build through a shop will put the motor in the $12k range by itself.. & that may be conservative depending on who's building.

If you wanted to go to Cars and Coffee every other week, you could do NOTHING to the car.

If you are more into the show R-Gruppe thing, you might want to invest in new TS buckets and lenses and OEM horn grills and maybe a few K$ in perfecting the FG fender fit. Actually if I had it to do over I would stick with the turbo steel fenders and graft on TS buckets.

I think the Motor has been tuned since ON boost looked at it. It runs really right not sure what you could do to make it better.

If you want to DE a little for me it would take a minimum of T bars and a center mount oil cooler. If you wanted to DE more aggressively I would add Front Carrera Brakes too. and a back half roll bar.

If I could afford to keep it I would also do some custom 17" fuchs but it looks VERY good with the 16s.

I dont know what to do about the AC, I hope some one decides to buy it and tells me to take it out. It would not be a big deal to get it working (replace a fitting and re-charge...oh if it was ever that simple :-))

Let me ask you guys, do you think If I would of gone with a more neutral color...say silver or White it would of been an easier sale?

I have had several people tell me they dont like the color. I just love the orange, I guess it clouded my judgement.

I think a lot of people on these boards are into the "show" R-gruppe thing.. I like a clean car too, but I'm done with those I have to limit my enjoyment with.. Been there done that. I think your description of directions it could go is spot on.

I'm sure the motor has been tuned by now, it was impressive when I saw the car thus I sure it hauls-azz now! You're correct it probably needs nothing!

As far as color, there is always somebody who doesn't like something.. usually those that aren't buying need at least one excuse. I think the orange is great.. too many silver and white RS/RSR replicas.. (ok I have a silver one also but that's only because I went back with original color).

Personally, I think the hardest part about your sale is the timing/economic climate. Or.. maybe the car wants to stay in its new home for you to enjoy?

~240 hp and 2400 lbs = a quick puppy, its odd I am real careful with it, I have less than 200 miles on it since I owned it!!! (it's been at the body shop most of the time).

Most of the time I guess I trundle around on the idle circuit....when you jump on it, you get past about 3/4 throttle and the primaries kick in....its intimidating.

Your right, it does want to stay home....I tried to sell my BMW and just DD for a year but no market there either.

I even thought about selling some stock but it would be like spending $10 for every dollar I get out...assuming the market comes back....I could go on.

Somebody please help me with my pain! :-)

Color is a big plus in my book. Love it

I love the color of your car and think the price is more than fair. BUT, for every 1000 people who profess their love for an RSR looking 911, there are probably only 5-10 of those people who would actually buy one. My opinion is that the market for your 911 is quite small. Just need to advertise every place you can think of.

Give it time. I think for a car like this in this economy, 6-12 months is a fair bet to find the 'right' buyer at a good price. If you want to sell fast in this market, be prepared to cut, and cut again.

I think the lack of sale has to do with the "flaws" that can be seen in the pictures: rear carpet is not installed well...many wrinkles, front passenger side footwell carpet also looks sloppy, only one rear seat, engine compartment appears to be a different color, front trunk is really dirty, etc. Those things add up in a buyers mind and make them question the quality of the build. Fix these little things and the cars sells fast IMO.

I never comment on people's cars for sale but...

You have what looks like a fun little hot rod but throw another $800 into it and you will get your money. I am always amazed how guys will list a car for sale and say it needs say a $100 part?? WTF?? If you aren't willing to do that what else is cheaped out on??

Buy some used seats in black and loose those covers. Buy some wire ties and clean up the loose wires all over the place. Spend some time sanding and painting or even powder coating some of the covers. Prep sol the overspray and you will sell your car.

I have passed up your ad at least 3 times because it just looks like sloppy finishes on a well built car?? Bu then again maybe just a thrown together for sale car. At that price guys are looking for fun well built rod not perfect show piece but want attention to details which is usually free labor on your end.

Sorry but it looks like quick low $20k sale with right corrections.

Probably no one wants excuses but...

I had to rush and make some decisions to get the car ready for the photos, a friend who is a prophotographer shot those pics and I had to work with his schedule.

Many of the issues above have been addressed, wires, wrinkles in carpet, I will get on the overspray had not even noticed....re-installed the fresh air levers etc.

I had plans to change the seats but then decided to leave them due to all the variables with racy seats (a persons size, shape etc.) and the pretty much un reversible surgery that has to be done with the 74 up cars to mount a non stock seat properly.

Its a great car and a great value for the right person.

I love the color. The obvious as stated above Porsche's are a niche market in general and anyone who is completing a sale in this market is being low balled.

You are not kidding on the low balls. I dont mind but it gets old when they ask a long string of questions and then shoot an offer that is 60% of asking...surely I am not that far off the mark at $23K. I can wait a bit to sell..... I hope this car has a lot more to offer to some folks than a nice stock SC or Carrera..the offers $$ I am getting. And thats without seeing the car. Who knows if they would actually complete the deal.

I dont know I built a car that I would really want and would pay more for.....I guess I am weird.

I think at 23 it is a good buy. Nice color, looks great.

Thanks Jeff Had totally planned to sell the 7s, 9s and put a set of your amazing wheels on....decided that made no sense financially for various reasons... I really just "wanted" them more than I needed them in this case. Next project...definitley some Alton Fuchs!
