73T with an earlier engine valuation Qs

Spoke with the seller a of a 1973 911T this morning and am wondering what a fair offer would be. Here's the facts:

-60k original miles

-Only rust is some bubbling on bottom of door edges

-S package including gauges, rockers, fuchs and recaro sport seats

-a few dashboard cracks and headliner stains, but interior is otherwise intact and good. map and door pockets present.

-Current owner says owner before him owned car for over 20 years and swapped out the 2.4 for a 'hot 1969 engine with weber carbs' when his son blew up the engine. PO told him there was ~15k on the engine.

-Car starts, runs and drives but needs a tune up.

-Seller is not a porsche guy per se (american muscle car guy), so he's not sure on some particulars but is adamant that car is in pretty good shape and knew about the typical rust areas. Says anything that was rusty was dealt with in the past and undercarriage is very good.

The big plusses are obviously it being a 73, the S package with recaro sport seats and the low mileage. The big negative is the wrong and who-knows-what engine.

Ballpark fair offer?

unsure on your local rules
so check if the car is legal in your area
but some places forbid earlier motor in later car swaps
I know califoricators forbid that type of swap

but both bits car and early motor should be valuable
and may have more value as separate items then together

I have a '73 T with the "S" package and Recaro's......I think with the proper engine it would be worth around 20K in the condition you mention. Bruce Anderson says, deduct 10% for not having the proper engine, but I would deduct more.

Just a wild guess, but I'd think it's maybe worth 15K; anything under 12K would be a bargin

You can find a proper 2.4 for around 3K or so.......

Hmmm

I might have to grab it and then figure out what to do with it. The idea being sell the present engine for a good 2.4.

Don't expect a lot for the 2.0. might be better to part it out. But wait until you've lined up your 2.4 just in case you need the carbs...

It sounds like it could work for you, but don't expect 'investment' returns on a car with type- but not numbers-matching engine.

Also: check to be sure the 915 trans wasn't swapped back to 901 with the engine.

Also: 'only rust is in doors' translates to 'only visible rust I'm willing to acknowledge is in the doors, the rest is for you to discover.'

FYI California has no problem whatsoever with that kind of swap in pre-75 cars.

You don't mention if it's a coupe or targa. If it's a coupe, and if it's everythng you say, I put the value at $18-22k.

fuchs?
targa or coupe ?
4 or 5 speed 901 or 915?
S brakes ?
pictures?

these are critical questions in setting value - that said lets summarize:

1. it needs interior work - headliner and dash
2. rust and paint work
3. mechanical work
4. a non matching (internals unknown) smaller discplacement then stock 2.0 motor that "needs a tune up"

That said with the limited information and the amount of work it is going to take to get it back to a real nice car , I think your offer would have to be under $10 k to be " fair" to you.
( admitedly sport seats are minimum plus of $2500)

Good luck jeff

Correct flat fuchs 15x6, 915, S brakes most likely given the other S details, and yes a coupe. I agree that my offer would be under 10k...I think I'm too late though.

I know the 'usual suspects' in the area had spoken to the seller and they swing exponentially bigger purses than I.

We'll see...
