79 sc

I've been looking for something like this for a project, Color is a huge plus. Assuming (please correct me if I'm wrong) it is in need of a top end, does the community think the pricing is in line with cars options and condition? My opinion is that similar conditioned/optioned sc's without "at least one broken head stud" can be had at this price point. Thoughts. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?t=467886

Very interesting car. Sunroof delete, crank windows, right color. Particularly IMHO to someone looking for a track car. Price might be a little high ... but probably not much. My 2 cents.

Price is high considering @ $6000 of repairs needed.

What will 6K get you these days? New head studs? Complete new top end? Refreshed top end?

my post should have read at least $6000. What will it get you? It depends how much you can do yourself. A top notch shop will rebuild and repair that motor for $12,000. Inexpensive cars tend to not need major work.

I could probably get the motor out, but this also why I'm looking for a project car, I want to learn how to work on these cars This would be a "no hurry" project. Most likely, I wouldn't touch the motor in there and just hang out until a "plug and play" motor presented itself in the classifieds, then get what ever I could for the original motor.

That is the low cost way to go about it. There are good SC engines out there for $4500 - $5500, and your 'core' should be worth $2500 or so. Still, the white car would be well bought at $8K. maybe $9K.

I am assuming you are talking to me. Porsche's are inherently expensive cars.

Example 2 cars; you can buy a SC in excellent shape for $20,000 +/- [Top of the market price.] or purchase this car for $10,000, do most of the work yourself, easily spend $6000 on parts and you have an $16,000 SC w/o heat w/ 1001 things still in need of sorting!

IMO the $20,000 SC was cheaper. Look very hard for a complete and nice car someone is moving on from. It will keep you busy enough.

Again, my pick would be a nice SC Targa.

The white car has value as a track car. I gather you are street car oriented?

Amen. I have been following this car out of curiosity. As far as a track candidate, a cosmetically challenged car, with good mechanicals will prove to be a much more easily managed project. There are lots of (local) folks out there that can make a 911 look nice, there are many guys out there that can bolt on some suspension parts and make a 911 handle reasonably well. There are not a lot of (local) guys out there that can build an engine properly. Be very careful.

Angry 79 sc

Gee thanks Macroni for dissing my car sight unseen (1001 issues). Maybe you should read and absorb the entire advertisement.

If they (SC's) are all $20,000 dollar cars as stated many times on this forum how does the math not add up? Do you have secret knowledge of defects inherent to white 911SC coupes?

The car for sale is a non-sunroof coupe, still the #1 choice for a track car. Next time you unload the free advice dumpster try removing the personal bias for E-bay Targa's.

I hope prospective buyers can ignore your unethical commentary. It's not fair to them or the listing sellers.

$20k was the magic number 2 years ago. Not true today, IMHO. Probably $16k, maybe even $15k.
