If anyones interested,

I stumbled across a US print 1973 Color Chart . And it does not seem the magenta was avaliable in 1973 on 911 models as special order color.

However in 1973 they do have the fraise , in this Porsche published US print catalog . It is named "raspberry" . Even though most french translations for Fraise are noted as strawberry. It must be the same color . No codes are given in this chart. It is just a 911/912 model sales brouchure.

Yes , the Magenta is even brighter than the Fraise. I would say it's about the loudest color Porsche seems to have ever used.

So what happened to those pic's you were going to post? You have three pages of people supporting you to stick with Fraise. Now the car is sprayed and you pull a Houdini on us... You likey or what?

It hasn't stopped raining here so I still don't have any pics. I'm hoping to get (& post) some tomorrow.

Totally interested in selling. The sale will help pay for my daughter's college.

Hello

I want to buy one of those color charts or brochure showing the colors of a 1973 911........

I did note that the Porsche Red Book shows more colors for 1973 then your brochure...did you notice that?

wgwollet ,

No , I didn't . I've never dug into colors other than any I had on a car . What colors are in the 1973 red book that are not in the US colors chart ?

Post a scan if you can.

As far as getting a copy of the 1973 english print colors chart.

A user named "88cs" on the early S forum has the one those scans are from for sale :

(forum section)

For Sale/Wanted: 911 Parts

Brochures 1968, 1969, 1972 914, 73 911 and ........ 69 917

"All of these are original brochures."

"1973 colors brochure, very good condition, it has a couple of small stains at the very top. $125" .

This MIGHT , be the cover for the 73 color chart . I'm not sure. You can ask :

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good luck

Here , I found this for you. It's a page from a 1973 dealer album (and from the photo you can see there's an upper fold up part of this page attached but not shown).

This scan was marked "special colors" (2nd photo down below) , and I would assume a 1973 "dealer album" is for ALL 1973 models (914 also). And then there has to be standard colors also. And i'm sure another page (or maybe more) of interior samples.

The same user had this posted for sale 5/2009 on the same forum , he was asking $1750 for this 1973 dealer album at that time. From this and some other interesting literature he posted then and recently. He's obviously either a literature collector. Or maybe a ex-dealer or salesman ?

Hello

Ratbox

Thanks for info, I like documentation...

Your chart shows 9 standard colors and 4 optional

Red Book shows 8 standard colors and 20 optional

Like: Olive (414) Royal Purple (329) Leaf Green (218), etc

wg,

If you look closely, the count in the 911 portion of the US print color chart is actually same as your Red book on the standard colors at 8.

5 on the special colors.

I think that US market might have been limited on special colors choices. For instance, I know for one , 'GrandPrix White' was a special order color in 1973. It was probably not available for U.S. models.

That 1973 dealer sales album shows 19 special, just on the page showing . And it looks like more on the fold up page above the one showing (and I think the page showing is for Model 911).

There were no remarks on the sales thread when he was selling it , mentioning that it got sold. He could very well still have it.

I like documentation also, peoples memories can get "fuzzy" over the years,

Thats why docs. are nice (however , that does not mean that things that are not 'documented' in print . Did not sometimes occur).

Happy Holidays

hello

rb

go over to 911s Registry and search for lackshift....

Carl is starting to make paint code sticks for touch up. I showed him your chart and the Red Book and he claims they both are incorrect,,,,for example Red Book in 1972 shows 20 standard colors.......

Merry Christmas

For clarification, I just came across an old auction showing that Lit. cover of the Ivory 1973 911E decklid. It's from the 1973 911 US sales brochure.

wg,

I have no idea whats correct , as far as standard colors for 1973 911 models.

It's a factory commissioned , English text 911 & 914 color chart . That's the only comment I can make on it.

Someone else is going to have to research , if there were differances in available colors for differant markets. I'm already researching too much , that is more dear to me.

I don't know about this late into the 70's.......But on Porsche paint issues.

Dave Pateman , is normally the man. I would ask him , if you need to know something regarding paint availability (or P. factory paint in general).

Awesome! My 1973 914 2.0 was the same color, from the factory. There were two others in my college town, the same factory color.

I saw a rose red/fraise 1972 coupe last week in the parking lot of my favorite Thai restaurant here in LA. Great color, definitely attracts attention, but looks fantastic on the car. Belong to anyone here?

Bill,
Looks great!

Using this color has sent you on a distinct course (IMO a good one) of highly original. My next step would be focused on building the car in the exact way it would have left the factory matching the COA. I would accumulating the proper factory installed parts for year and model; interior, exterior, mechanical etc.... proper dated wheels.... This attention to detail will optimize the decision and commitment to the original color as well as attract the top dollar buyer. I would not skimp. The parts are out there to acquire if you do not have them. Have you targeted a selling price?

Luke
