1973 2.4T motor price
Could the board help me price out the following to sell:
1973.5 2.4t 7R case, no real known history prior to my ownership of around 4-5 years, marks its territory with very small oil spot under valve covers after sitting for a week or so, otherwise dry, had great leakdown #'s a couple of years ago, approx 3 year old 40mm PMOs with minimal yearly mileage, matched CIS in storage box, SSIs, Danske sport exhaust, also with whatever I don't need including fuel pump, etc. Starts and runs as it should and is still in car. Here are some pics and of course I will get more specific leakdown numbers before selling. My goal is to buy a 3.2 over the winter and in the early spring sell this and pop in the new one all at the same time. Any help would be appreciated, obviously all the "jewelry" was pricey and I know I won't recoup it all but it definitely still has some value. Thanks in advance. ![]()

Gees, not even a use the search function comment? Likely I will sell this in parts but not until it is all spoken for. I am confident that someone will enjoy this engine on the next leg of its life. I guess I can just wait the next 2 months or so of cold winter and then list it to find out the market value but was hoping for a general estimate to use in my savings calculation for the new engine.

2.4 Motor Prices
I've seen a couple of complete 2.4T liter motors advertised on Pelican over the past year. Asking prices for motors described as "good running motors" some with leak down # seemed to run $3.0 - $3.8K. Obviously depends on condition, seller (if credible shop) and carb/injection. Suggest you do search in 911 parts. Redline advertised a 2.4 CIS at $3.8K, a 2.4T MFI was advertised at $3.5K etc.
For example see: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-used-parts-sale-wanted/568226-1972-porsche-911t-mfi-engine.html

$3000-4K depending on leakdown/comp results.
Might post on some of the 914 boards as those guys like nice 911 motors

Thanks, that is closing in on the price I suspect, not very many of the 2.4s that I have seen for sale are sporting practically new SSIs, Danske sport exhaust and pretty young PMOs. Likely because most people who are smart would keep all of those parts. Someday down the road I am sure I will be kicking myself for unloading each of those parts.

Thanks for the input. I fully hope to sell it locally where someone can get in the car and see it start and run. Worst case I will sell it in parts. The CIS I have worked when I took it off so potentially someone will get an engine with some choices. I am a little curious what everyone thinks the price for the carbs, SSI and exhaust sold individually would be without even considering the engine with the old CIS and misc parts that would go with it.

Ok, let me just ask one last thing, the SSIs and Exhaust are pretty common sale items here so I can easily obtain the estimated market value condisering they are both in excellent shape, can anyone guess on a market price for the PMOs, figuring they will include the complete carb kit and fuel pump which would retail new for about 3800+100=3900. There have been a few for sale but prices seem to be mixed. Thanks.

As a general rule I value good condition used parts at ~50% of new. This applies if they are presently available to buy new. NLA parts, rare pieces or special performance bits notwithstanding.
New-In-Box but not from original source (i.e. no warranty, etc but still available from authorized source) I typically value at a 25% discount from new. Items which are well used and worn, needing restoration (minor mechanical or cosmetic) are 'cores' and worth maybe 25% of new. Items of 'salvage' status good only for parts are a crap shoot. I think this is valid. Since we don't see many PMO's available used (let alone as 'cores), I'll use a Weber as the closest thing: New PMO ~$4k - the closest set of 'cores' would be servicable Webers which go for $1000 (+/-) if they are complete and not in need of complete re-work (new plating, bushings, etc - if it needs that, it iw worth considerably less on the open market). 100% webers, used but freshly rebuilt are perhaps $1800 for the set. Frankly I wouldn't pay more for used PMO's over freshly rebuilt Webers. But that's just me. The Webers probably carry a slight premium for vintage car owners and the PMO's to racers.
