Carrera tail question

I want to remove the tail on my Carrera. Should I buy a new decklid and have it painted to match or just have the holes filled in the oem decklid and then have it painted.

Try and buy one used in the same color, paint if necessary
then sell your tail with lid, it's possible that it could pay for the whole project....

or

See if someone with a car of the same color wants a tail and trade lids

I'd look for a second tail, even one with holes if cheaper, and have it "fixed up" and installed. Keep the factory one for orginiality (asuming the car came with spoilers orginally). Of course, if money is tight, selling the one you have could help fund your replacement project.

Of course, any tail that needs repainting won't be a perfect match.

The other posters are correct: You should normally keep the original tail that came with the car. However - maybe someone added the carrera tail at one point, in which case it may no longer matter.

I am looking for a carrerra tail:

What color is your car (and tail)? If it is Guard red, the could trade my original decklid, and/or a 964 tail (which goes up and down using a motor).

You may need to paint the new decklid if you get one not in the same color as yours. Even if it is the same color, it will most likely be very slightly different, but hopefully not noticeable to the average person.

Timing is everything. Late last year, I wanted to get rid of my Guards Red '85 Carrera tail and go to a plain lid. Could not find a trade, but was able to buy one then sell the other.

If you're not in a rush, the opportunity may come up. It's desirable to have the same color because of the sticker underneath and the extra difficulty of painting the underside of the lid.

I went through the same thing. You can do it either way. But I'd go ahead and buy a new lid and get it repainted. The cost of getting a used lid and the cost of having the holes welded up and finished are about a wash.

I got a good used lid with grille for $125. The paint wasn't great on it, but that didn't matter because it needed to be repainted.

I did all the prep on the lid (clean up, sand down, primer, etc.) and took it to a shop for spraying.

For the emissions sticker on the bottom, I just carefully masked it off. Came out very clean, you'd have to really be looking closely to tell it was masked off.

If you do it that way, you also have the benefit of being able to switch back to the tail in 20 minutes, if you want. When you go to sell the car, you may have a little easier time, as some like tails and some don't, and you could offer it both ways.

Engine lid

I am in the process of getting a plain lid to replace the one with a tail. I do not stand a snow ball's chance in hell of finding a matching color. My ar is Casis.

I am ging to add a real window wiper at the same time which means I need a different condenser to replace the parallel condenser I added. I will also add additional condenser in the rear fender well

Anybody want a parallel condenser
