Has anybody looked at the prices in this month Excellence Magazine (April 2011) Porsche 911 long hoods (1965-73)?
The prices hit a high in 2008 then dropped in 2009 and 2010, and these 2011 prices look to be back to highs again. I do believe these cars will be very strong, I will even predict, that the long hoods will gain more per cent value then the 356. Here are my reasons 1) 356 are very old cars in todays standards, they are slow, but fun to drive. They are geared to guys from that generation. For example I am 62 years old and love the 356 series but I grew up with the long hood 911's. Just like the muscle car era for the baby boomer's. 2) Prices for 356 are too much for average collectors in this economy and future outlooks, the cars have priced themselves into the elite few. These long hoods will for our kids be too expensive if not now for some models. 3) The long hoods are the true Porsche that is still made today (911 series still is around) and can be easily modified to everyone tastes. just my 2 cents |

I agree.....
The crap economy dropped the prices a bit, but I expect a bounce soon (if the economy holds up).
The "S" is a given (limited production hot rod) to rocket up, but I think the best value & sleeper of the long hood bunch is the "E." Most road tests of the day were a bit put off by the high strung S, and tended to favor the all around driveability of the E (and T). They made a bunch (relatively speaking) of "T" models, IMO they will trend up a bit - but slower. I don't really get the 356's rocketing price leap myself. Nice driver quality 356 B's were around $5k not that many years ago. I can see the rarer 356's ( Carreras, Speedsters, any race or early version, etc.) commanding big money, but rough B's bringing upward of $30k is silly IMO. Most post '69 911's are really nice driver's, and a properly running S or E, heck maybe even a T, would likely out handle/out brake/out run even the hot 4 cam 356 Carrera's. 356's a well built, charming little cars, but high performance - not so much. |

The Excellence prices for longhoods are finally approaching actual world pricing. I think Bruce solved his dillema by adding the footnote about excellent examples bringing 2 to 3 x his prices....
![]() Good issue of Excellence overall, as most have been recently.

Just a guide
Prices are just a guide, like most estimates.
But in 5 years, if there is a big enough following the cars could be out of reach for the average working Joe (like me). I always wonder about guys or girls getting into Porsche, it seems to be a small group compared most brands. |
