Thoughts on an '86 Carrera
Looking to get my first 911 and I found this near by and I'm planning on checking it out this saturday, I'm looking for any feedback or things to look for when I view it.

Standard stuff: general conditions and care, owner history and records, and frequency of use. Cars that sit for extended periods tend to have issues from lack of use - stuff that crops up once you start driving it! When starting and driving it, listen for the possible sound of broken head stud(s) - search the technical forum and you will find a load of info about that. When was clutch replaced, if at all? Does it smoke while running? Be present when its started cold, if you can. Minor smoke at start up is not unusual, but smoking at other times is generally not a good sign. Does it grind if shifted quickly? That's sign of trans synchro wear ($$). Check the targa seals - all of them. None are cheap to replace. Search and study the tech forum as it is a huge cache of info. No matter the issue, likely someone already had it, asked about it, or fixed it. Oh, and get a pre-purchase inspection if you're serious. If you do buy, expect to spend some $$ - it is inevitable!
